HP literature suggests the photo and line quality are "ultimate". They are good - but subsequently HP has introduced 6 and ten colour machines that are presumably better?

Cartridges for each ink are 69cc giving a life appropriate for small workgroups. HP boast a "very low cost per copy". An ink-set change takes 1 minute. Printheads are long life

The DesignJet 500 series takes sheet and roll fed media in a wide variety, including heavyweight coated and studio canvas. An automatic cutter trims roll-fed media leaving just 17mm of margin.
