Common HP Laser Printer Faults

If you repair and service your own laser printer(s), we can supply you with feed rollers, maintenance kits, fuser units, paper feed repair roller kits, and other printer spare parts.

Common Laser Printer Faults:

Paper jamming in the paper trays areas - we supply paper feed repair kits which contain pickup rollers and separation pads, we also supply the paper pickup, feed rollers and separation pads separately. Replacing these parts should rectify these paper feed problems

Toner is not fusing to the paper or marks on the page - faulty/ worn or damaged fuser unit which needs to be replaced (50, 50.1, 50.2 fuser error). We supply both new and refurbished fuser units

Perform Printer Maintenance message - Maintenance Kit required - we supply both new and refurbished maintenance kits for these printer models

When the fuser is worn or damaged
Your printer is showing an error 50 (fuser error/ fuser failure)
Marks or spots on the page - still there after changing toner cartridge
Toner is not fusing properly on the page (toner rubs off)

Should you buy a New or Refurbished HP Fuser or Maintenance Kit? Some laser printers have the option to use a new or a refurbished fusers and maintenance kits. If you have only one printer and rely on it, or if you don't have experience fixing faults then buy the new spare part because they are more reliable. Refurbished fusers are less costly but they do sometimes give problems that technicians will often be able to identify and deal with.

Faulty Toner Cartridge??
Certainly not unknown for toners to be faulty (most Originals rarely display faults - remanufactured toners regularly do so)

Actions - (check the following)
*Shake cartridge from side to side gently in a place where any toner spill can be cleaned
*Check the toner Density Setting - usually in the windows driver if Toner Saving is On print will be faint
*Check for dirty electrical contacts between the printer and cartridge
*Check the Transfer Roller and it's contacts, these may need cleaning
*The printer's scanner assembly may be dirty - (this is a difficult fault for users to resolve)
*The HT Unit may have Failed - (again this is a difficult fault for users to resolve )

We can't give advance replacements for cartridges without payment - to our knowledge, nobody will. The problem is that there are too many returns where no fault is found. If a fault is found then of course we will give you a credit or a refund.

It is also possible (not frequent) that rough handling when installing a new cartridge sets off a latent fault in the printer - for instance a dry joint develops in the HT unit or some stray toner migrates into a contact. Then the fault is not the cartridge and won't be cured by changing it.

Printer Repairs

Mindmachine ran a full repair service for end users and the computer trade until 2008. We reviewed business levels and decided repair was becoming increasingly uneconomic. The cost of new equipment has fallen to levels where fewer items can be economically repaired. Repair has three futures:

IT Departments and field support specialists with contracts who are able to see how they might repair things and assess both the value and potential pitfalls of doing the job.

End user repairs carried out using easy to change components - printer fusers and rollers are increasingly made to be easy to change.

Triage centres that provide easy fixes to save manufacturers money on their warranty work.

At one time we used to repair the electronics on computer motherboards but those days are gone. There are dozens of board designs; the equipment to re-work BGA motherboards is expensive and since most boards cost under £100 and can take a couple of hours to diagnose and repair the work isn't economic.

We now sell the parts and kits for repairs online. At the moment we mainly sell parts for printers and the batteries for UPSs.

We still offer some repair in the Newcastle area for established customers who don't want to do the work themselves. Our customers include schools, colleges, universities and businesses in the Gateshead, Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, Cleveland, Washington, Sunderland, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Northumberland areas.
