HP Color LaserJet 2820 Printer (Q3948A)

The HP Color LaserJet 2820 is a four-pass colour multifunction printer, scanner, copier and fax. Models are:

  • HP Color LaserJet 2820 All-in-One (Q3948A) - basic AIO printer / copier.
  • HP Color LaserJet 2830 All-in-One - has fax and high capacity cartridges
  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 All-in-One (Q3950A) has fax ability, a 250 sheet tray and memory-card slots and shipped with high capacity cartridges.

The engine uses a four-pass mechanism with a carousel presenting successive toners to the imaging drum. This technology gives fast black printing and provides slower but accurate colour. The 2820 is network ready and is a fully independent printer with PCL and Postscript language support.

Essentially the CLJ 2820 / 2840 is the engine from the CLJ 2550 integrated with a colour scanner to give a neat copier and optional fax capability suited to low volume use.

Fax / Copier control panel with LCD display, numeric keys and function buttons.


Duty Cycle:

HP claim a duty cycle up to 30,000 pages per month. This might be possible but would use a couple of sets of cartridges every week. A realistic use level is 500 to 2,000 pages per month.

Scanner Abilities:

Flatbed with 50 sheet ADF, 1200 dpi optical resolution, 24 bit external, 256 level gray scale. Scanning Size: 216x381mm from ADF, 216x 297mm from flatbed. HP Image Zone software provides tools for viewing, enhancing, managing, and sharing digital photos and scanned images.


600x600dpi with HP FastRes 1200 and ImageRet 2400 print quality.


Paper Handling:

A4, A5, B5 paper sizes. Multipurpose tray 125 sheet 105x148 to 216x356mm, 60 to 177 g/m². Optional Tray 2 250 sheet 148x210 to 216x356 mm, 60 to 105 g/m².


Duplex:

Manual duplex with driver support. 264MHz processor and 96MB memory to handle complex print. Memory expandable to 320MB by changing 100 pin DIMM. Motorola Coldfire V4e processor at 264MHz with 96MB RAM

The CLJ 2820 / 2840 series cartridges have smart-print technology for consistent performance and easy maintenance. The CLJ 2820 ships with low capacity 2000 page toner cartridges. The 2840 ships with high capacity 4,000 page cartridges.
