HP Color LaserJet 3700 (Q1321A)

Colour laserprinter with a throughput of 16 pages per minute in mono or colour. Models are:

• CLJ 3700 - Q1321A - 16ppm,
• CLJ 3700N - Q1322A - network version with a Jetdirect 620n
• CLJ 3700DN - Q1323A - network and duplex - two sided print.
• CLJ 3700DTN - Q1324A - network, duplex and a 500 sheet paper tray

The CLJ 3700 is based on the same engine as the CLJ 3500 and 3550 but is somewhat faster and better specified.

The CLJ 3700 has support for conventional print languages, PCL 5C, PCL 6 and Postrscript 3 emulation. The 3500 relies on host-based processing and lacks expansion options.

The CLJ 3700 has better connectivity options with USB, parallel and an EIO slot. It also ships with more memory (128 MB) and can be upgraded

The CLJ 3700 has a duplex option which the others do not.

The CLJ3700 uses the same 6,000 page black cartridge but also has 6,000 page cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges.

All these printers use an inline arrangement of cartridges to achieve reasonable speeds for colour. The CLJ_3700 seems not to have a direct successor - the engine used in the CLJ_3800 is (rather oddly) rebadged as the CLJ CP3505.

Two line LCD display with buttons for menu selection. Stop and Help buttons. HP Web Jetadmin. HP Embedded web server. HP Printer status and alerts.

Duty Cycle:

55,000 pages per month, as stated by HP. As often happens this assumes a huge budget for consumables and overstates realistic use.

Print Speed:

Up to 16 pages per minute, The 3700 has a faster processor than the 3500. First Page out in 20 seconds from Powersave.

Print Resolution:

True resolution 600 x 600 dpi with ImageREt 2400.

3700n has 64MB and the 3700dtn has 128MB built in RAM expandable to 448MB.

Parallel and USB 2.0. The "N" version has a Jetdirect en3700 for connection supporting TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and Appletalk

"N" model comes with a JetDirect 615N in EIO slot

There is a 120 Volt (US, Japan) and 220 Volt version of the printer. Power consumption varies with mode: Off 0.3 Watts. Powersave 9 watts, Ready 18 watts, Printing 350 watts.

The CLJ 3700 printers use the same black 6,000 page Q2670A cartridge as the CLJ3500. The CLJ 3700 has its own colour cartridges: 6,000 page cyan Q2681A, yellow Q2682A and magenta Q2683A
