HP Laserjet 4250 Series

The LJ4250 series are fast mono laser printer handling A4 / letter page size. The LJ4250 runs at up to 45 pages per minute. Output quality is high with a resolution of 1200 dpi at full engine speed.

The built in processor and memory offloads tasks from user computers quickly, letting them get on with work. The LJ4240n has a 460MHz RISC processor matched by 48MB or 80MB of memory to give performance matching workgroup needs.

The series is an updated version of the LJ4200 / 4300. The LJ4250 has a faster processor and more memory on the formatter. There is a USB and an IEEE 1284 parallel port making it easy to connect to individual computers. The LJ4250n models have an embedded JetDirect ethernet print server so network models still have two free EIO slots.

The LJ4250s capabilities can be expanded using two Compact Flash slots to add fonts, e-forms, barcode printing, job accounting and secure printing. There are a range of trays, a duplex unit, envelope feeder and stacker / stapler.

• LaserJet 4250tn - Q5402A - network, 64MB RAM and 500 Sheet Tray 3
• LaserJet 4250dtn - Q5403A - network, tray, 80MB RAM, duplex
• LaserJet 4250 dtnsl - Q5404A - network, tray, 80MB RAM, duplex, stacker / stapler.

There are the same options for the LaserJet 4350 which is similar but faster.

The LJ4250N has a choice of 2 print cartridges: either a 10,000 or a 20,000 page version. Users can choose economy on the day or in the long term.

The LJ4250 is an update on the LJ4200 and 4300. Its fractionally faster than the 4300. It takes the "B " version of the accessories. It has all the language and network support features, plus network and USB ports.

Control:

An intuitive layout includes an LCD panel wit 4x 20 characters and graphicsl which gives clear user prompts. Embedded web server and HP Web Jetadmin software.

200,000 pages per month.

Print Speed:

is Up to 44 A4 pages per minute for A4. 45 pages per minute for letter sized paper. First page out in less than 8 seconds

Print Resolution:

True 1200 x 1200 dpi with HP Fastres and HP Prores. Ultraprecise toner gives sharp images.

Paper Handling:

Tray 1:Multifunction tray for 3x5 to 8.5x14 inch paper (76x127 to 216x355 mm). Capacity up to 100 sheets. Weights 60 to 200gsm. Heavy media may need to use the straight- through path to the face-up tray.

Tray 2:Built in: for standard and some custom paper sizes, A4, A5, letter etc. Up to 500 sheets of 60 to 120 gsm weight.

Tray 3:Either a 500 sheet option: as for Tray 2 or a 1500 sheet option: A4, letter and legal paper with weights of 60 to 120 gsm. A 1500 sheet tray and up to 3 others are allowed giving a total capacity of 3100 sheets.

Paper Output:is normally to a 250 sheet face down unit. There is a 50 sheet face-up tray at the rear for thicker media. A 500 sheet stacker unit or a 500 sheet stacker with a stapler can be added on top of the printer taking the output capacity to 750 + 50 sheets so it can run largely unattended. Duplex and envelope feeder units are also optional.

All 4250 models have a 460MHz RISC processor

Memory:

The LJ4250 has a 48MB memory, the n and tn have 64MB. The dtn and dtnsl ship with 80MB of memory. Memory is expandable to 512MB. There are two 100 pin DDR DIMM slots 1 preloaded with a device matching the initial specification.

IEEE 1284 Parallel and USB.

Network:

There are 2 x EIO slots . JetDirect functionality is embedded leaving both slots free.

Print Languages:

HP PCL5e, HP PCL6, HP-GL/2 and HP PostScript 3 Emulation. Automatic language switching. If there is more than 128MB of RAM the LJ4250 can also do direct PDF printing (V1.3).

System-Compatabilty:

Microsoft Windows 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003. Mac OS9.x, OS X 10.1. Linux etc.

Power Consumption:

20 watts in powersave, 13 watts in standby. 680 watts printing. It still uses 0.3 watts when off.

All in one toner, developer drum cartridge. Up to 10,000 pages from the LJ4250 standard cartridge Q5942A. Up to 20,000 pages from the LJ4250 high capacity cartridge Q5942X. These are smart cartridges so they warn the user before running out.

Service:

Resetting the maintenance-kit counter (LJ 4250/4350)

The Select Button has a tick-mark. √

The Up Arrow button has a black triangular arrow pointing upward. - Δ

1. Turn the printer off and then on.
2. When 000MB (the beginning of the memory-count) appears on the control-panel display, press and hold down the select button. Continue holding down the select button until all three printer control panel lights flash once, and then stay on. This might take up to 10 seconds. Release Select when the lights are on.
3. Use the UP ARROW button to scroll to NEW MAINTENANCE KIT.
4. Press Select to reset the maintenance-kit counter.

HP's Service Manual cautions that this reset procedure should not be used to clear the message temporarily. If you do clear the message then remember what long-lived items have not been changed yet

HP's Service Manual gives anticipated lives for long-lasting parts:

• Fuser life for the 4250 and 4350 is 225,000 pages The transfer roller is expected to have the same life.
• The tray 1 Pckup roller has an expected life of 100,000 pages The tray 1 separation pad life is given as 200,000 pages.
• The Tray 2 Pickup roller has a life of 225,000 pages The Feed roller has a life of 225,000 pages.
• The pickup solenoids are given a life of just 200,000 pages in the service manual. In practice the solenoids often outlive the rollers several times.
• The Cooling fans are all rated for 40,000 hour, about 5 years of constant on service. Ten years or more of working days and weeks.
