The LaserJet 4 family is not a model of printer, there are 4 engine variants - the "4", "4P", "4V" and "4Si" which are all quite distinctive. So the LaserJet 4 is not so much a model as a generation of "laserjet" - and particularly of the PCL and PostScript languages and the computer system drivers.
The HP 4Si was HP's heavy-duty model in the LJ4 family. It is based on the Canon "NX" engine with a output of 17ppm letter (16ppm A4). The engine is quite like the EX engine but "bigger boned" with room for two 500 sheet trays and easy incorporation of a duplex unit.
The 4Si MX was a postscript model aimed at graphics artists and Apple Mac users.
The 4Si was introduced in April 1993 so its a very old design. Physically it's a bit of a monster so it is now rare, although given enough memory it can still do a good job.
However to the best of my knowledge I'm the last user (as at 2009)
LCD control panel with 2 lines and a set of 8 buttons for menu. The control panel is similar to other "4" series. The prompts and key pushes are not quite intuitive but the printer can print out a menu to help.
