Lexmark Original Toners
Fuser
Lexmark 4039
These are old printers dating back to 1993 and Lexmark's origins in IBM. The printers have the square styling that became and IBM house -style in the late 1980s. The range was revised in 1994 giving it PostScript Level 2 emulation which broadened its system compatability.
The 10, 12 and 16 page per minute printers use different fusers and as often happens the faster printers have larger trays. Otherwise the machines are the same.
Printers in the series are capable of 10 to 16 pages per minute so they may still prove satisfactory for things like invoicing where graphics aren't important. There were a range of add-on options including a duplex unit, 500 sheet input bin and 500 sheet output bins.
The limited resolution of 600 dpi and comparatively small memories suggests they won't work well printing pictures or complicated PDFs. Parts supply tends to be erratic for 15 year old machines.
The 4039 can be directly attached to IBM and Apple PCs and the RISC System / 6000 via parallel and serial interfaces. Adapters for Ethernet, Token Ring and Appletalk can be added.
There is support for PCL5 (HP LaserJet III). Early models have PostScript Level 1 Emulation and the "Plus" models have PostScript Level 2 Emulation.
Printers have automatic data stream sensing and automatic interface switching.
The IBM 4039 design was an enhanced successor to the IBM 4029 series which was very similar. In turn this was a development of the 4019.
The 4039 series printers are:

Control:
20 character 4 line display with menus using simple terminology to lead users through tasks.
Duty Cycle:
Duty Cycle 75,000 pages per month. These printers have been used for invoice runs attached to things like the AS400 minicomputer so they often have been expected to produce several thousand pages per month.
Print Speed:
12 to 16 pages per minute - see above. The 16 page per minute speed is achievable at 300 dpi. At 600x600 dpi speeds are more like 8 pages per minute.
Printer warm-up time 35 seconds. First page after warm-up in about 20 seconds.
Print Resolution:
600x600 dpi maximum resolution. However note that these printers have limited memory and higher speeds will be achieved at 300x300 dpi.
Print Quality Enhancement Technology (PQET) for extremely sharp text and graphics.
An enhancement to the EP process gives improved printing on rough paper.
Paper Handling:
Paper Handling: A4 / Letter pages sizes.
Paper size sensors in both primary and secondary paper trays give automatic paper setup.
500 sheet output bin with tray full sensing.
Paper tray linkage gives a larger paper source.
There is one position for a second drawer which can be any of the options.
Face-up or collated output is provided.
Duplex and extra trays.
Processor:
20.0 MHz and 29000 microprocessor
Memory:
Standard 4 Mb RAM memory. Expandable to 16 Mb. There are 2 RAM slots and one is occupied by the printer base memory of 4MB. Expansion may mean discarding this device.
1MB, 2 Mb, and 4 Mb Flash memory options.
The 16L plus has a 40 Mb hard drive option
Interface:
Parallel and RS232 serial.
Automatic data stream sensing. Automatic interface switching
Network:

The Duplex Option provides the capability to print and collate double-sided pages through the PostScript Level 2 and PCL5 data streams. The Duplex Option comes with a 14" special paper tray that allows duplexing from the standard paper tray location. Due to the design of this tray, input paper capacity is reduced to 300 sheets. This feature is portable and interchangable with other IBM LaserPrinter 4039 16L plus.
