A4 mono laser Laser Printer intended as a reliable unit for personal or business applications. Compact design and aimed at low price.

The design features an "ultra clean" toner with a separate photoconductor so things are only replaced when they are fully used.

There are two closely related engines with many common parts and overlapping specification. The "type 4505" is the earlier series the E230, E232, E234, E330 and E332

The "type 4511" are closely related: E238, E240, E340 and E342

Since the parts, specifications and model numbers all overlap the whole list is given below.

• E230, type 4505-100. 18 pages per minute, 200MHz Processor. 8MB memory standard (8 max), 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. USB (universal serial bus) port and parallel port. Host based an PCL5e. 1,500 page cartridge. Note: The optional 550-sheet tray is not supported.
• E232, type 4505-200. 22 ppm, 16MB of memory standard (max 80MB), 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. Optional 550 sheet drawer. USB and parallel port. Host based and PCL6. 1,500 page cartridge.
• E234, type 4505-400. Prints 25 ppm, 32MB of memory standard, a parallel port and a USB port.
• E234n, type 4505-410. Prints 27 ppm, 32MB of memory standard, a parallel port, a USB port and Ethernet.
• E238, type 4511-000. Prints 25 ppm. 16MB memory standard (max 80MB). Parallel and USB ENA Option. PCL6 and PostScript support for Mac Os Only. Note: The optional 550-sheet tray is not supported.
• E240, Type 4511-100. Prints 26 ppm. 16MB memory standard (max 80MB). 250 sheet tray, single sheet slot and an optional 550 sheet drawer. Parallel and USB ENA Option. PCL6 and PostScript support for Mac Os Only.
• E240n, Type 4511-410. Prints 26 ppm. 32MB memory standard (max 160MB). 250 sheet tray, single sheet slot and an optional 550 sheet drawer. Ethernet, Parallel and USB ENA Option. PCL6 and PostScript support for Mac Os Only.
• E330, type 4505-300. Prints 27 ppm. 32MB of memory standard (Max 160MB). 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. Optional 550 sheet drawer. Parallel port and USB port. Host based and PCL6, PPDS and Postscript 3. 2,500 page cartridge.
• E332n, type 4505-310. Prints 27 ppm. 32MB of memory standard (Max 160MB). 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. Optional 550 sheet drawer. Parallel port and USB port with 10/100 BaseTX Ethernet. Host based and PCL6, PPDS and Postscript 3. 2,500 page cartridge.
• E340, Type 4511-600. Prints 30 ppm. 32MB memory standard (Max 160MB). 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. Optional 550 Sheet drawer. Parallel and USB. PostScript 3, PCL6 and PPDS Migration tool. Has an LCD control Panel. US / Canada Part 28S0500.
• E342n, Type 4511-610. Prints 30 ppm. 366MHz Processor. 32MB memory standard (Max 160MB). 250 sheet tray and single sheet slot. Optional 550 Sheet drawer. Parallel, USB and Ethernet. PostScript 3, PCL6 and PPDS Migration tool. Has an LCD control Panel. US / Canada Part 28S0500.

Control:

There's a big difference between the low-number printers which have buttons and lights and the E340 and E342n which have Lexmarks later design panel with an LCD message indicator.

Basic designs have buttons and lights at the front right of the printer. 2 buttons (Continue and Cancel) and six lights (one in the continue button). Secondary and tertiary error codes are given by double-clicking the continue button. Light patterns for error codes are given in the service manual.

There are some configuration and diagnostic modes entered when the printer is turned on with the front cover open and the Continue button pressed.

The E340 and E342n have an LCD operator panel which is easier for users and support personel to use.
