Lexmark E360dn

Lexmark E360dn Laser Printer Family.

A4 mono laser printers with an automatic duplex unit as standard and a version with both duplex and network built in. These printers have an engine print reolution of 1200 dpi which Lexmark say gives "2400 quality".

The E360 is a business-oriented version of the 4513 print engine also used by the E260 and E460.

It gives 40 pages per minute against the E260s 35ppm and it has more features; it takes bigger 9000 page cartridges and there is a multipurpose tray and an LCD display to help with setups.

The E460 has more features; it takes even larger 15,000 page cartridges, has more memory and a bigger LCD display - but of course it is more expensive.

All the printers have language emulation for PCL5e, PCL6, PS3, PPDS.

Control:

2-line 128 x 32 pixel backlit LCD gray scale display. The LCD display is helpful in setting up network connections and printer options; it also makes interpreting messages much easier.

Duty Cycle:

Maximum Monthly Duty Cycle: 80,000 pages per month. Recommended montly page volume is 740 to 6,000 pages.

Print Speed:

Print speed depends to some extend on the complexity of the page. Complicated pages will often print more quickly if the printer memory is expanded. The E360 comes with a base memory of 32MB which is generally sufficient for double sided A4 mono print. Memory can be expanded to 288MB on this model.

There is also some dependency on the speed of the computer.

Print Resolution:

Print images are made from dots and the quality of the image is determined by how big the dots are and how many can be placed in a given area. Print quality is often summed up by giving a figure for "dots per inch" or dpi. Higher dpi figures improve the look of curves, fine lines and photographs.

Lexmark say "1200 Image Quality, 1200 x 1200 dpi, 2400 Image Quality, 600 x 600 dpi " in the manufacturers publicity PDFs. The engine native resolution seems to be 1200x1200 dpi.

Consumables:

These printers use a seperate toner and photoconductor. this approach should give lower printing costs.

Average standard page yields are given in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752; a 5% page cover is assumed.

As usual with Lexmark there is a standard cartridge at a normal price for such things and a return program cartridge where Lexmark give a lower purchase price in return for the customer's agreement to return the cartridge to them for recycling.

The E260, E360 and E460 all take the same fuser, which isn't too surprising because there is only a marginal speed difference between models.

Maintenance Kit:

There is no explicit maintenance kit for the E260 and E360 probably because they are not intended for corporate use.

The following parts are equivalent: 40X5345 fuser, 40X5451 Paper feed ACM tires, 40X5364 Transfer roll, 40X5372, Media exit guide.

Maintenance kits are intended for use at 120,000 pages so these parts might be changed at about the same time.

Spares:

The most likely spares requirment is for the paper feed tires to fix feed problems. The transfer roller and exit guide assembly also wear out. Users also break trays from time to time. (This list is largely the same for the E260 and E460)
