A letter-quality dot matrix printer with the low running costs associated with this design and a low purchase price. The 24 pin head gives reasonable graphics handling - although it certainly isn't fast.

There are a few points in favour of letter quality dot matrix printers:

They don't suffer from the inkjet tendency to clog when not used

- the printheads have practical lives measured in years whether they are used or not.

- the ribbons last a long time even when installed in the printer

Tractor feed paper is a bit more troublesome to load than cut sheet, but once in place it feeds very reliably.

Dot matrix (and other impact papers) can produce multi- part stationary, so it's easy to keep a copy of everything.
