Samsung CLP-610ND, CLP-660N and CLP-660ND Colour laser printers

These colour laser printers deliver A4 pages at 20 or 24 pages per minute in colour. The speed is based on a set of integrated toner-drum inline cartridges. There are three models in the series with features as follows:

CLP-610ND - 20ppm, Network, 360MHz processor, SPLC language.

CLP-610ND - 20ppm, Network, Duplex, 360MHz processor, SPLC language.

CLP-660N - 24ppm, Network, 533MHz processor, PLC, PostScript-3.

CLP-660ND - 24ppm, Network, Duplex, 533MHz processor, PLC, PostScript-3.

The service manual suggests there was a CLP-660 base model with no network port.

There are some other differences between the CLP-610 and CLP-660. CLP-610 is said to have no memory expansion slot. It doesn't support PCL and Postscript print languages and fonts and is sometimes said to be a GDI printer, there is a driver in Linux CUPS. (Brochure and service manual differ on a few points.) The formatter board obviously differs between models and so do the fusers and a couple of related parts.

First page out is faster on the CLP-660 as well, 14 seconds as against 20 seconds on the CLP-610

Ethernet Networking is provided as standard. A second tray is an option on all models. The CLP660N can be retrofitted with a duplex unit if required.

Samsung also made a series of multifunction printers based on the same chassis, the CLX-6200ND, CLX-6200FX, CLX-6210FX are 20 ppm based on the CLP-610 engine and the CLX-6240FX is based on the 24ppm CLP-660 engine.

The service manual makes no distinction and says 100,000 papes per month. However this is a meaningless distinction since it also suggests a total product life of 200,000 image or 5 years whitchever comes first .

CLP-610ND - 21ppm in mono and colour, First page out in 20 seconds

CLP-660ND - 25ppm in mono and colour, First page out in 14 seconds

2400 x 600dpi effective output on all models (600 dpi native engine ?)

Multifunction Version

Multifunction versions of the printer are the CLX-6200ND, CLX-6200FX, CLX-6210FX and CLX-6240FX

250 sheet built in cassette and 100 sheet Multipurpose tray as standard. Output to 200 sheet face-down tray.

Duplex built in on "D" models. Optional second 500 sheet feed tray.

Duplex:

Fitted as standard on "D" models. Optional retrofit CLP-U660A

Memory:

CLP-610, 128MB Base RAM, The Service manual says 64MB on the front cover and 128MB not expandable in the contents, whilst a brochure says 128MB expndable to 384MB. Samsung expansion RAMs suggested are 128MB CLP-MEM210 and 256MB CLP-MEM202. We suspect the specification may have changed as the documentation was prepared or during product life.

CLP-660, 128MB Base RAM, One Expansion Slot. Maximum 640MB. Expansion RAMs 128MB CLP-MEM101, 256MB CLP-MEM102, 512MB CLP-MEM-103.

Samsung sometimes call the intermediate transfer belt a PTB. The life given is 50K it doesn't say whether that is pages or impressions.

Described in the service manual as MEA-HOLDER PAD_MP it also says it's not available, although it is available in UK distribution.

Pick Up Roller (Cassette Tray ) - JC97-02233A

Described in the service manual as MEA UNIT-P/UP_HOUSING .

Pick Up Pad (Cassette Tray) - JC97-03077A

Described in the service manual as MEA-HOLDER_PAD_SHEET. They do list separate parts - a holder, pad and sheet - hence the wierd name.
