Brother HL-1240

The Brother HL-1240 is part of the HL-1200 Series which includes the HL-1250 and HL-1270N. The series was introduced in 1999 and includes the oddly named HL-1030.

The HL-1240 and HL-1250 have a speed of 12 pages per minute and a limited feature set.

The HL-1270N has a speed of 12 pages per minute and the best feature set for this family of printers.

These printers are quite old now and not particularly fast so people have to make a repair or replace decision before buying parts like a new drum or fuser.

Toners for the HL-1200 Series are the TN6300 (3k pages) amd TN6600 (6k pages) and the DR6000 drum.

In the US very similar parts are TN430, TN460 and DR400.

This page has some information but the HL1240 is part of the HL-1200 series and some aspects are covered in more detail on the HL-1030 page which deals with the whole series.

Control:

These printers have a basic control panel with LED lights and a button. The Windows drivers provide information in a more straightforward way than the lights. Information provided by the lights is reliable because the printer's own processor has determined it however if it is anything beyond paper, toner or drum the light pattern has to be looked up in the user manual.

See the HL_1030 page for brief instructions on how to get a test print.

Brother don't actually give a monthly duty cycle. They do give MTBF and MTTR
