Canon Pixma MX7600

All-In-One printer, scanner, copier and fax for A4 and similar sizes and photo sized papers.

The printer is unusual in using Canon's Lucia pigment ink, found on A3 and larger photo printers. There are 5 inks including a photo-black. The printer also has a sixth cartridge of "PgR" "clear-ink" technology that pre-coats the paper so that presentation and poto material can be printed on plain paper without show-through, curling and ink bleeding. The printer uses 5 colour pigment based cartridges and one clear coat cartridge. Colour photo reproduction is said to be excellent in revues - although the colour gamut won't match printer with 7 or more inks specifically built for photgraphic work. PictBridge capability and printing from memory cards are both included. Copy, fax and photo printing functions can be used without a computer.

Nuance Omnipage SE - OCR utility converts scanned text to characters. NewSoft Presto Page Manager (Windows) - tools for creating documents and PDFs.

The MX700, MX850 and MX7600 are comparable in many ways. Ethernet, photo quality print and an LCD display.

The MX850 use 5 separate inks with 1 picolitre drops and a 9600x2400dpi resolution complemented by a 4800dpi scanner. Its the fastest printer. It has duplex and CD/DVD printing.

The MX7600 has many features plus duplex print and a new PgR ink technology boasting high quality and very long print life. However its slower, has larger ink drops and doesn't have CD-DVD printing.

At launch in 2008 Canon put an RRP of £329 on the MX7600 printers. Revues in May 2008 found a street price of £166. They are still on the maket in 2013 with an ex-VAT street price of £65.

Control:

Keys on fax-copier control panel and a 4.5cm (1.8 inch) TFT display. (Actually some PDFs say larger, but we think its just 4.5cm ?)

Duty Cycle:

Not stated. Intended for domestic and small office use. The black cartridge life of 570 pages suggests its a personal and small office printer.

Canon's PIXMA iX7000 is an A3 printer model using the same inks.

Scanner Abilities:

Built in flatbed A4/letter scanner using CIS. Optical resolution 4800x9600dpi on platen (enhanced to 19200 dpi), 600x600dpi via ADF. 24 or 48 bit data. Twain and WIA (Windows XP/Vista).

ADF with 35 page capacity (The copy function is duplex, its a D-ADF )

Copy Abilities:

Speed for mono draft mode 28cpm, colour 23cpm. Copy speed for colour documents approximately 22 seconds. Copy speed for 10x15cm borderless photo, approximately 45 seconds. Multi copy capability 1 to 99 copies.

Zoom 25 to 400%. Auto intensity (AE) copy. Duplex copy. 4-on-1 copy, 2-on-1 copy, Sticker copy (x2, x4, x9, x16), Borderless copy, Image Repeat copy, Fade restored copy, Collated copy, Frame erase copy. Push scan capable.

Fax Abilities:

33.6kbps (about 3 seconds per page) Fax memory about 250 pages. 8 one touch dials, 100 coded locations and 107 group dials. Colour fax capable. Standalone fax and fax from PC.

Answering Machine Hook-up, Remote Reception, Memory Transmission.

Duplex:

Auto duplex for A4, B5, A5 Letter and 13x18cm sizes from cassette feed.

Memory:

Direct printing from CompactFlash, Microdrive. Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD Memory card and MultiMediaCard, With an adapter can print from xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, RS-MMC(V3.31), miniSD and microSD.
