Epson Stylus Photo 1400

A3+ inkjet printer using six inks and 5-level droplet size control to give high quality pictures. Epson Claria dye based photographic ink will last up to 200 years in an album. The printer is sufficiently fast and general purpose to have general office uses - producing presentation materials for instance.

The predecessor was the Stylus Photo 1290. The Stylus Photo 1400 is roughly twice as fast as its predecessor and has double the resolution thanks to having double the number of printhead nozzles.

The model above the Stylus Photo 1290 was the R1800 - which uses UltraChrome Hi-Gloss pigment inks to give a very high level of colour stability. The R1900 is better still. The market position for the 1400 is that it's rather more affordable and actually a bit faster thanks to the dye inks and for most purposes the difference will never be noticed.

Control:

A few basic buttons. Most control is from the print driver. The printer can be used direct from a camera using PictBridge.

Print Speed:

Maximum speed on plain paper. 15ppm black, 15ppm colour 10x15cm photo print in 45 seconds.

8x10" photo on A4 size - 111 seconds using bike image at 720x720.

A3 glossy - 173 seconds at 720x720.

Note that print speeds may vary depending on print conditions

Up to 5760 x 1440 optimised dpi on suitable media using RPM (Resolution Performance Management)
