HP Color Inkjet Printer CP 1700

HP Color Inkjet Printer cp1700 is an A3+ color Inkjet that delivers high-quality text and color documents with the convenience and end-user control of a desktop printer designed for the office. It was introduced in autumn 2001 at the same time as the A4 CP1600. It's a very different looking machine and uses a different ink system - 4 heads and 4 cartridges. The only relation to the CP1600 seems to be market niche - it aimed at "the small office that needs a versatile color printing solution" (the original price was USD499). More prosaically its robust with a 5,000 page per month rating and the modular ink delivery system with 4 heads and 4 cartridges gives reasonably low running costs. There are options for duplex, postscript and a Jetdirect 200m or 250m LIO print server is an option.

Software: HP ZoomSmart features to resize, tile and mirror documents.

Although the CP1170 has been around for some time it isn't yet obsolete in performance terms - newer printers do give higher performance but have not yet dramatically supplanted it. In July 2009 spares are still available.


Control:

LCD status panel shows ink levels. Cancle button, Resume light and button. Power button. Automatic cartridge alignment. Automatic media sensing.


Duty Cycle:

HP suggest a maximum throughput of 5,000 pages per month. Its robust for and inkjet.


A4 at up to 16 ppm draft black text, 5.5ppm full page colour; in best mode 4ppm black text 0.7ppm full page color.



Resolution Up to 2400x1200 on photo paper. Resolution depends on media which can be auto-sensed. 1200x600dpi black. 1200 x 600 dpi + PhotoREt or 2400 x 1200 dpi (with some photo papers)


Paper Handling:

A3+. Tray 1 -150 sheets. Optional tray 2 - 250 sheets.


Print area 13x19 inches (330x482 mm)

Width range - 102 to 330.2 mm, 4 to 13 inches

Length range - 152 to 482.6 mm, 6 to 19 inches

Paper (plain, Inkjet, photo, and banner), envelopes, transparencies, labels, iron-on transfers, and greeting cards.

Tray 1:Tray 1 or manual feed 16 to 36 lb bond, Rear manual feed 16 to 72 lb bond.

Tray 2:A second tray was available as an option (CB220A)

HP used to list several other case parts as available, but they are not likely to be available in the UK spares market.

Service:

There are limited repair and service options for these printers. For the most part they suffer the same faults as all inkjets - ink dries in the nozzles. This is likely after the printer has not been used for some time and is difficult to shift and possibly uneconomic because of the price of a complete set of inks and heads.
