HP Color LaserJet 4550 Series Printer

The CLJ 4550 is a big colour laser printer with a 4 pass colour process based on a carousel mechanism. It's obsolescent, - too slow for its market position as a workgroup colour printer and too large for domestic use. Large cartridges make it fairly economical to run and it's robust so this model did remain in use until about 2010. We would be surprised if there are many still going.

These are 4 models:

  • Color LaserJet 4550 printer - C7085A - 2 tray
  • Color LaserJet 4550n printer - C7086A - 2 tray + network
  • LaserJet 4550dn printer - C7087A - 3 tray, duplex + network
  • LaserJet 4550hdn printer - C7088A - 3 tray, duplex, network and disk.

The 500 sheet feeder tray option is C4082A. Duplexer C4083A

The CLJ 4550 was the successor to the CLJ4500. The CLJ4600 uses a completely different design.

Print speeds A4/Letter monochrome 16 ppm; 4ppm colour, 3ppm using duplex, 2ppm for transparencies.

up time 3.5 minutes. After that 26 seconds to first mono page.

Print-engine native resolution is 600x600 dpi. HP Image REt 2400 uses a proprietary toner blending to produce millions of solid colors giving photo-realistic images. HP ColorSmartII provides automatic half-toning and color control based on data type.


Paper Handling:

Paper Handling: A4+ (8.5x14 inch) paper. Input capacity 400 or 900 sheets depending on tray options

  • Tray 1:150-sheet multipurpose, 3.9x7.5 inch (straight-through paper path only) through 8.5x14 inches - 60 to 135 g/m
  • Tray 2:250-sheet input tray, A5 through legal (inculdes A4) 60 to 105 g/m
  • Tray 3:Optional Tray 3: 500-sheet + feeder, AB through legal (inc A4)

Face Down:

Default paper output is to the face-down bay on top of the printer.


Duplex:

Provided on "D" models.


Memory:

64MB - 256MB models. 3xDIMM Maximum capacity 192MB HDN has 6GB hard disk.


Interface:

Parallel Port - C-connector (ECP)


Network:

Network: 2xEIO Slots. "N" models have 610N print server. Network versions have JetDirect 610n and HP Web Jetadmin software.


Network Protocols:

As for the JetDirect 610N.


PCL 6, and Emulated PostScript Level 3. JetSend-enabled - can receive documents direct from HP9100C.


System Compatability:

Microsoft Windows 95,98, ME, NT3.51, NT4, 2000, XP. Apple Mac OS. Anything PostScript 3 compatible.
