HP Color LaserJet CM6030/CM6040

Wide format colour printer copier with a wide choice of paper feed and finishing options. Both printers - CM6030 and CM6040 - are identical with firmware determining the print speed to 30 or 40 pages per minute for A4.

The print engine is based on the CP6015. The design uses four long-life separate toners and imaging drums to give economical operation without needing a lot of user attention.

One use for the CM6040MFP (and the CP6015) is as a production printer for small runs of catalogs and other promotional material so low copy price is a key objective. This is achieved by using separate toner and drum cartridges rather than the single-piece cartridge common on HP's lower volume machines.

Other uses are in engineering where the large page size allows production of diagrams and maps. The print resolution allows clear fine print.

The print resolution of 1200x600 dpi together with HP ImageREt 4800 is considered good enough for photographic purposes.

As with other MFP models the machines can also be used for capturing documents electronically and improve workflow with scan to e-mail, printer, network folder and fax services.


Control:

Graphical LCD touch-sensitive display four line 640x240 resolution. Numeric keypad, 5 LED indicators. Network management includes HP Embedded Web Server, HP Web Jetadmin and HP Toolbox.

The CM6030 works at up to 31copies per minute and the CM6040 at 41cpm.

Scanner Abilities:

Flatbed scan area 297 x 432 margins of 4.2mm. Colour optical scanning at 600dpi with 256 grey scale levels.

Copy Abilities:

ADF, 50 sheet capacity to 60 to 220gsm. Duplex handling automatic. The ADF has an automatic duplexer for scanning two-sided documents.

Fax Abilities:

33.6Kbps v 34 Fax. Standard 100x100dpi. Modem speed 13 seconds per page. Superfine 300x300dpi

Engine resolution up to 1200x600 dpi for detailed line drawings and small text. Normal operation is at 600 dpi with HP ImageREt 4800. ColorSphere toner copes with line art and fine details.


Paper Handling:

Paper sizes to A3. Duplex built in. Up to 4 A3 trays. Ability to handle "banner" pages up to 36 inches long.

  • Tray 1:Fold down multifunction tray. 100 sheets, 10 envelopes. Size ranges 99x140 to 320x457mm, 60 to 220gsm. A3, A4, A5, A6 etc.
  • Tray 2:500 sheets. Size ranges 148x210 to 297x432mm. 60 to 220gsm. A3, A4, A5 etc.
  • Tray 3, 4 and 5:500 sheets. Size ranges 148x210 to 297x432mm 60 to 220gsm.
  • Optional 3-bin Staple / Stacker:Provides job separation in multiple output bins, convenient stapling (up to 50-sheet jobs), job offset capability, and additional output capacity. The stacker has three bins: a 100-sheet bin, a 500- sheet bin, and a 1000-sheet bin.
  • Optional booklet maker finisher:Provides convenient stapling (up to 50-sheet jobs), saddle-stitching (up to 15-sheet booklets), single-sheet v-folding, job separation and offset capability, as well as additional output capacity. The booklet maker finisher has three bins: two 1000-sheet bins and one bin that can hold up to 25 saddle-stitched booklets.

Duplex:

Is built in on all models. Duplex provides automatic two-sided printing of documents - ie printing or copying both sides of the paper without the operator having to turn the page over.

512MB Expandable to 1GB using one DDR SODIMM slot. Memory devices are 167MHz 200 pin DDR DIMM.

Memory Enhancement technology (MEt) automatically compresses data to use RAM more efficiently.

Consumables:

Seperate ColorSphere toners and imaging drums are used for economy. This break with HP (and Canon's) tradition of single cartridges is justified by the high throughput these machines are likely to be used for. The problem of exchanging toners and drums is minimised because they have large capacities.

Fuser:

The fuser in a lser printer makes toner adhere to the paper using a combination of heat and pressure. Fusers can last a long time but the hot toner will be sticky and the non-stick qualities of the fuser gradually degrade and need replacing. The fuser heater can also fail and sometimes the foil surface will de-laminate and wreck. The fusers used in the CP6015 series have a life of about 100,000 pages.

Spares:

The CP6015dn, CP6015x, Cp6015xh, CM6030MFP, CM6030F MFP and CM6040F MFP are based on the same engine and use the same list of parts. HP are increasingly providing parts as kits which are intended to be user-friendly.
