HP Color LaserJet CP6015 Series Printer

HP Color LaserJet CP6015 series printers are intended for high volume use. Typical applications are large workgroups with many print demands and printing marketing collateral. Other applications are production of engineering diagrams and maps.

At their introduction in 2008 this was HP's fastest colour machine through to 2013 when it was replaced by the M855 which has an A4 simplex throughput of 46ppm.

The printer is a wide format colour laser printer with a 12.6 inch path handling paper sizes to A3 and above; there is a banner capability for pages 36 inches long.

The print path uses inline technology giving fast colour printing at 40 pages per minute. Because the CP6015 is intended for high volume use it features separate toner cartridges and imaging drums to give lowest running costs.

High resolution print with up to 1200x600 dpi native resolution and ImageREt 4800; suited to very fine line art and complex imagery. Aimed at graphics-oriented workgroups such as architecture, CAD and cartography - and also as a production printer for large volumes of output.

HP Say: "Experience maximum flexibility with one printer for high-volume office printing as well as for high-quality marketing collateral on a variety of media."

Product pointers:

• Print a wide assortment of documents from letter size up to 12 x 36 inches and up to 58 lb in multiple trays. Load a variety of media using up to five input trays with up to 2,100 sheet input capacity.
• ImageREt 4800 top of the line color laser imaging technology smoothly renders complex imagery without sacrificing speed. Select 1200 x 600 dpi resolution when you require very fine line art and text detail for cartography or CAD applications.
• Large workgroups and power users will experience high-performance features including up to 40 ppm with an 11 second first page out from ready, 512 MB standard memory and embedded gigabit networking, including IPv6 support and new security features.

Optional finishing solutions with a 3-bin stapler/stacker or a booklet maker.

All printers have a 100 sheet multifunction tray 1 and a 500 sheet input tray 2.

CP6015n - Q3931A - simplified network model with no duplex. Cannot be upgraded. Limited distribution.

The CM6040MFP is a multifunction copier version of the same machine.

The CP6105 series was launched in April 2008

Control:

Control panel with 4 line LCD display and "Advanced Auto Navigation" to help operators through tasks like clearing jams. HP Embedded Web Server, SureSupply. HP Easy Printer Care software (a Web-based status and troubleshooting tool)

Color access control. Web Jetadmin has features such as colour access control.

When fitted with the optional disk the printer has Job retention with User PIN authentication for stored jobs.

Duty Cycle:

Typically 4,000 to 17,000 pages but rating allows 175,000 pages. Recommended maximum monthly print volume of 12,500 pages

Print Speed:

Colour print speeds of 40 pages per minute for A4 (A3 and duplex will be slower) First page out in less than 12 seconds in "Ready" mode. Duplex at rated speed.

Print Resolution:

Engine resolution up to 1200x600 dpi for detailed line drawings and small text. Normal operation is at 600 dpi with HP ImageREt 4800. ColorSphere toner copes with line art and fine details.

Paper Handling:

A3+ up to 12x36 inches from tray 1. Up to 4 A3 trays. Ability to handle "banner" pages up to 36 inches long.

Tray 1:100 sheets 4x5.5 to 12.6 x 36 inches

Tray 2:500 sheets. Supports from 5.8x8.2 to 11.7x17 inch - 279 x 432 mm A3

Tray 3,4 and 5:Optional trays supporting sizes up to 305 x 457 mm (12 x 18 inches), and SRA3.

Optional 3-bins Stapler / Stacker:Provides job separation in multiple output bins, convenient stapling (up to 50-sheet jobs), job offset capability, and additional output capacity. The stacker has three bins: a 100-sheet bin, a 500- sheet bin, and a 1000-sheet bin.

Optional booklet maker finisher:Provides convenient stapling (up to 50-sheet jobs), saddle-stitching (up to 15-sheet booklets), single-sheet v-folding, job separation and offset capability, as well as additional output capacity. The booklet maker finisher has three bins: two 1000-sheet bins and one bin that can hold up to 25 saddle-stitched booklets.

Face Down:

Standard output is to a face-down bin located on top of the printer with a capacity up to 500 sheets of paper. A sensor indicates when the bin is full.

Duplex:

Duplex provides automatic two-sided printing of documents - ie printing both sides of the paper without the operator having to turn the page over. All the CP6015 models have Duplex built in except for the basic CP6015n. Unfortunately the CP6015n can't be upgraded.

Memory:

512MB as standard 1GB maximum. RAM is 200-pin small outline dual inline modules (SODIMM)in 128, 256 or 512 MB modules. Memory Enhancement technology (MEt) automatically compresses data to use RAM more efficiently. Option for disk, which is fitted on the CP6015xh.

Interface:

USB 2.0 connection for direct connection to a local PC. (The press release wierdly says "hi-speed USB 2.0-like port" ). Note that sharing the printer using Microsoft Windows capabilities will slow the PC used to make the share - possibly substantially on large colour print jobs. All models have a network port and it will be better to use that.

2 x EIO Ports (Enhanced Input Output) for expansions such as additional network cards or the optional hard disk.

Network:

10/100Base-TX Networking as standard (embedded) leaving the EIO slots free. (Was this later upgraded to Gigabit with IPv6 support as standard? ) IPsec available.

Consumables:

CP6015 and CM6040MFP user the same consumables. Separate print cartridge, drum and transfer kit give low running costs.

Print cartridge yields are different in HP documents. The user manual gives the yeild for all cartridges as 17,000 pages at 5% coverage. Other documentation suggests the colour cartridges last a bit longer.

Fuser

The fuser in a laser printer bonds toner powder to the page using a combination of heat and pressure.

Spares:

The CP6015, CM6030 and CM6040 are based on the same engine with the CM multifunction printers having a scanner integrated on top.

HP sensibly tried to develop little kits for maintenance, but then less happily they have changed the part numbers and descriptions - and a couple of descriptions on their Partsurfer online database just seem wrong.

The user manual gives information on a roller kit "HP Color LaserJet Roller Kit - CB459A"

UK parts distributors are fairly clear its a roller kit. HP Partsurfer says this is a "LJ M1120N"
