HP DesignJet 200 and 220 Plotters

HP DesignJet 200 and HP DesignJet 220 plotters are large format, monochrome, ink jet plotters originally aimed at CAD, CAM, Cartography and engineering. As monochrome devices they have low running costs but their lack of colour capability and relatively low speeds make them obsolete.

The DesignJet 220 has the ability to deliver an enhanced 600 dpi resolution and the specification on HP's site says it is about 40% faster than the 200.

Models are:

  • DesignJet 200 - C3180A - D Size, 24 inch (625 mm) or "A1"
  • DesignJet 220 - C3187A - D Size, 24 inch (625 mm) or "A1"
  • DesignJet 200 - C3181A - E Size, 36 inch (917mm) or "A0"
  • DesignJet 220 - C3188A - E Size, 36 inch (917mm) or "A0"

The DesignJet 600 is similar to the 220, it:

  • - handles roll feed as well as cut sheet
  • - has a slot for a JetDIrect MIO print server
  • - has 4MB of memory with a maximum of 20MB
  • - and a VFD display control panel.

For the DesignJet 200 A1 plot in draft mode in about 4 minutes. A0 plot in 8 minutes. Figures suggest the DesignJet 220 is about twice as fast but HP say 40% faster. Equivalent to about 2 pages per minute for A4.

300x300 dpi. The 220 has a 600dpi enhaced mode. Accuracy in drawing a vector is 0.38 mm (0.015 in) or 0.2% of the specified vector length.

Paper Handling:

Single path for cut sheet from 8.3 inches (210mm) to 625mm (D size) or 917mm (E size). Lengths up to 64 inches (1.625m). Maximum long-axis plot is about 15 metres.

Memory:

On board memory is 2MB RAM and one RAM expansion socket (SIMM) for a 2, 4, or 8 megabyte device giving a maximum of 10MB

Interface:

Parallel Interface (Centronics / Bi-Tronics) or RS232.

Network:

A network interface is optional using an external JetDirect.

HP-GL vector language. HP-GL/2. HP-RTL (HP Raster Transfer Language. PJL (Printer Job Language)

System Compatibility:

Shipped with drivers for MS Windows 3.1 and AutoCAD 10,11,12.
