HP Laserjet 1000

A small-footprint laser printer for individual use stressing affordability and ease of use. The LaserJet 1000 printer is a Windows host based device using the power of a nearby PC to format documents for print.

Prints at up to 10 pages per minute with an engine resolution of 600 dpi. The LaserJet 1005 is very similar. It was followed by the LJ1150 and LJ1200.

Control:

There are just a couple of lights on the printer itself - its intended as a Windows printer and control is via the driver. There is Linux support via CUPS.

Duty Cycle:

Design capability 7,000 pages per month. Typical usage 1,000 pages or less per month.

Print Speed:

10 pages per minute rated engine speed. Because the printer uses system resources print speeds will be dependent on host PC resources.

Fast warm up - first page in less than 15 seconds.

600 x 600 dpi with HP resolution enhancement technology (hp REt) for 1200 dpi class effective output.

Paper input capacity:is 250 sheets of regular weight 75 g/m2 paper. Minimum paper size 76 x 127 mm (3 x 5 inches).

Maximum paper size: 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 inches).

Output bin: 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lbs) using "C" path tray to top face-up tray.

Straight through media path: 60 to 163 g/m2 (16 to 43 lbs) tray to face-down tray

Processor:

48 MHz embedded RISC.

Memory:

1MB RAM. The processor and memory are just about sufficient for a GDI printer.

Interface:

USB 1.1 - The relatively low speed of USB 1.1 is not a problem as the printer is not particularly fast.

PCL Level 5e emulation via DOS applications running in a Windows - DOS shell. Windows only

Consumables:

2,500 pages (Yield at 5% cover). All the print consumables except the fuser are included in the cartridge. This makes things simple for users and tech support.

Spares:

It's a simple printer so the only spares normally needed are the fuser and possibly the pickup roller and pad. Some people reckon it's worth changing the transfer roller alongside other rollers.
