HP Laserjet 1015

The Laserjet 1015 is a small footprint laser printer, excellent for home office use.The 1010 is similar but slightly slower and Windows only. The 1012 is like the 1010 but faster. The 1015 has a parallel port, larger memory,an input tray cover, the PCL 5e print language, network and Linux / Unix capabilities. The later designs HP speeded things up in the 1018/1020/1022.

The Canon LBP-2900, LBP-2900B and LBP-3000 are very similar mechanically.

Control:

3 LEDs for status. Buttons for "Go" and "Cancel". If all lights are lit there is a system fault.

Duty Cycle:

HP rate the printer for up to 7,000 pages per month although it would be unusual to expect so much from a printer this size. The cartridges are relatively small and only have a yield of 2,000 pages.

14 ppm for A4-size paper

Copy Abilities:

The are all-in-one printers based on this engine and using the same N012 cartridge are:

  • HP LaserJet 3050 All-in-One (Q6504A)
  • HP LaserJet 3052 All-in-One (Q6502A)
  • HP LaserJet 3055 All-in-One (Q6503A)
  • LaserJet M1319f Multifunction Printer (CB536A)

600x 600 dpi with REt giving 1200dpi effective

Interface:

Interfaces: USB and parallel ports. No built in network but compatible with USB and parallel print servers.

HP recommends print servers:

  • JetDirect 170x (J3258B) - Parallel 10/100Base-T
  • 175x (J6035B) USB 10/100Base-TX
  • 300x (J3263A) Parallel 10/100Base-TX
  • 310x (J6038A) USB 10/100Base-TX
  • 380x (J6061A) USB Wireless 802.11b
  • WP110 (J6062A) Parallel Wireless 802.11b
  • And the Bluetooth Print Adapter MPIPA130.

Unlike the LJ1010 and LJ1012 the LJ1015 supports the PCL 5e print language. The other two printers are (host based) where the processor in the users PC creates the page layout. The advantage of the print language is that it offloads some of the layout task from the computer; it also gives compatability with Unix and Linux systems.

System Compatability:

Windows ME, 2000, XP, Server 2003 etc.Mac OS9, OS X. DOS, Linux, Unix

Consumables:

Single-piece cartridge containing the toner, developer and imaging drum.

HP Black Toner Cartridge, Standard yield 2,000 pages - Q2612A

Silver Reed Black Toner Cartridge - SI5008A

Fuser:

Fusers adhere toner powder (or "ink") to the page using a combination of heat and pressure. The fuser working surface is a non-stick material which eventually wears out, especially given the combination of heat and pressure.

Fuser 120V - RM1-0660

Fuser 220V - RM1-0661-040CN

There is more information on fusers and how to fit them on the LJ 1010 page.

Spares:

These are simple printers and not much goes wrong. Beyond the cartridge and fuser the other likely item is the pickup roller

Pick-up Roller - RL1-0266

Separation Pad Assy - RM1-0648
