HP Laserjet 1020

A small monochrome laser printer primarily intended for personal use attached to a PC. Host-based control is used to give a low purchase price - it uses the PC to compose a page. The speed of up to 15 pages per minute is sufficient for demanding individuals and the 1200 dpi effective output quality produces adequate pictures. HP's single piece print cartridges are particularly useful in a printer of this kind. Users get the robust performance of a laser printer - non of the cleaning cycles associated with inkjets. A single simple cartridge to change - not the toner, developer and drum of some competitors. The LJ1020 is a descendant of the "5L" - a ten year old machine that is still used. Whether the LJ1020 will prove as long lasting is a mystery.

The LJ1020 is the second phase of a series of designs beginning with the LJ1010 / 1012 / 1015 and continuing with the LJ1022. The same engine and the "12A" cartridge also appear in multifunction machines such as:

  • HP LaserJet 3055 All-in-One (Q6503A)
  • HP LaserJet M1319f Multifunction Printer (CB536A)
