The LaserJet 1200 is closely related to the LJ1000; they were both introduced in 2001.  The same engine appeared as the 1220 AIO printer/copier. It was succeeded by the LJ1150 and the LJ1300 in 2003.

Control:

Lighted button and 2 LEDS. The 220 volt models have a power switch on the rear.

Print Speed:

Print speed 14 pages per minute for A4

First page out in under 10 seconds.

Copy Abilities:

The LJ1200 is just a printer but the LJ 1220 has a scanner on top giving it All-In-One abilities.

The LaserJet 1220 has print, copy and scan features together with support software - HP document manager, Readiris OCR software and scan to email functions.

Scanner: The scanner unit (C7046A) sits on top of the printer, and is an upgrade option. The scanner is TWAIN compatible has a 10+ page ADF capability and gives 600 dpi 24 bit colour output. Scanner behaviour depends on role.

Copy function works at 12 pages per minute and is available even when the computer is off. Edge enhancement and wide gray range.

Print Resolution:

Print resolution 1200 "ProRes" to give improved greyscale images.

Paper Handling:

Paper handling: A4, Letter 250 sheet main tray, 10 sheet priority tray.

Priority feed tray (to 10 sheets) allows the first page to print on different media (such as letterhead).

Main tray holds 250 sheets of 75g/m2 paper. Minimum size 3x5 inches, maximum size 8.5x14 inches. (76x127 to 215x356mm)

The LJ 1220 can (rather oddly) handle 8.5x35 inch banner (216x762mm) on its straight through path. This unusual ability has become very popular with colour laser printers.

Duplex:

Double sided print requires manually turning the page. There is no auto duplex option.

Interface:

The USB and parallel ports can be connected at the same time to different computers - a PC and a Mac for instance.

Network:

The 1200n has an external JetDirect. Network protocols are given by it's specification.
