The LaserJet 8150 was introduced in November 2000 - its a substantially improved version of the 8100 so it shares some parts but not others. Despite its age the specification is quite adequate for many jobs, an A3 printer is still an expensive item. In January 2010 the LaserJet 8150 is still widely used.
The LJ 8150 was based on the Canon WX engine which was also used as the Canon LBP-WX, LBP2460, Lexmark Optra N Model 240 and 245 and QMS 2425.

Duty Cycle:
HP give a monthly throughput of 150,000 pages per month. These machines are often used as production printers for material like catalogues and books
Print Speed:
32 pages per minute A4. 16 pages per minute A3. Transmit-once for faster network processing and RIP once for faster job processing.
Print Resolution:
600x600 dpi with 1200 dpi quality with REt.
Paper Handling:
A3 and tabloid capable paper path with many options.
Multipurpose Tray 1:Fold down tray at the side handling 98x191mm to 297x450mm (11.5x17.5 inches). Paper weight 60 to 199 gsm.
Tray 2 and 3 slide into the lower part of the printer; both have 500 sheet capacity for standard paper sizes (tray 2 A4, tray 3 up to A3 / tabloid 60 to 105 gsm).
Optional 2 x 500 sheet tray or 2000 sheet trays installed under the printer.
The "D" and MFP models incorporate an auto-duplex unit.
Paper Output: 100 sheets face-up, 500 sheets face down. Optional stacker and 5, 7 or 8 bin mailboxes. Edge to edge printing

32MB standard RAM with Memory Enhancement technology (MEt). Expandable to 160 MB. 2 x DIMM slots open for expansion on base model as shipped. Optional 2GB disk drive in EIO slot for forms, fonts and signatures.
Interface:
IEEE 1284 parallel port. 3 x EIO ports for JetDirect, hard-disk and copy-controller cards. Network: The "N" models have an EIO JetDirect.
PostScript 3 emulation gives compatability with most systems including Windows, Apple Mac and Linux.
Print Languages:
HP PCL 5e, HP PCL6, HP PostScript Level 3 emulation. Automatic language switching.
The digital copy module on the MFP version has flatbed scanning to 279x432mm and an ADF unit handling 60 to 105 gsm paper with duplex.

Standby 165 watts; Printing 685 watts, both approximate.

Consumables:
The 8150 uses a single piece cartridge contaning the toner, developer, OPC drum and waste toner bottle. The only other part likely to need regular replacement is the fuser.

Fuser:
A fuser adheres toner to the page using a combination of heat and pressure.

Maintenance Kit:
A maintenance kit provides a fuser and a set of the rollers that wear out due to use. Rollers are often changed at the same time as fusers because wear rates are similar.
