HP Laserjet 8150 MFP

Fast printer / copier designed for large departments and corporate print use. The 8100MFP has duplex (double sided) printing, network connection and a scanner with digital sender abilities.

The 8100MFP comes with 2 x 500 sheet trays, a 2000 sheet high capacity tray (C4781A), duplex ability, 3000 sheet stapler /stacker (C4788A), HP Digital Copy Module (C4231A) and 56MB RAM.

The HP LJ 8100 MFP and 8150 MFP were very similar - changes in processor and memory specification rather than the print engine. Another very similar machine is the Mopier 320.

The LJ 8150MFP is based on the Canon WX engine which was also used as the Canon LBP-WX, LBP2460, Lexmark Optra N Model 240 and 245 and QMS 2425. Despite its age the8150MFP specification is quite adequate for many jobs; an A3 printer is still an expensive item. In January 2010 the LaserJet 8150 is still widely used.

Control:

A scanner with a copier-style control panel mounts over the printer. They are semi-independent unit.

Duty Cycle:

Maximum duty cycle given as 150,000 pages per month. Its a heavy duty machine.

Scanner:

The digital sender module comprises:

A3 (11x17) scanner with an ADF and duplex capability, LCD display and coy-fax buttons. This attaches to a copy-connect EIO card in the printer via a 6 foot cable. The digital sender itself is normally mounted on top of the printer using the digital copy stand.

HP Digital sender software (part on disk and part on a firmware DIMM)

File formats supported are PDF, TIFF and MTIFF

Protocol is TCP/IP to an SMTP mail server.

Copy Abilities:

MFP model includes the HP Digital Copy Module Stand (C4231A).

Print Resolution: 600 dpi native. Printing at 600 dots-per-inch (dpi) with Resolution Enhancement technology (REt). FastRes 1200 provides 1200 dpi quality at full speed. More than 220 levels of gray for photographic quality print.

Paper Handling:

A3 capable. 100-sheet tray, 2 x 500-sheet tray, 2000 sheet tray.

Minimum Paper Size: 3.9 x 7.5 inches (98 x 191 mm)

Maximum Paper Size: 11.7 x 17.7 inches (297 x 450 mm)

Paper weights: Tray 1 to left ouput bin 60 to 199 g/m2. Other trays and via the duplex unit 60 to 105 g/m2

Paper Output:Paper output capacity 500 sheets plus a 3000 sheet stapler / stacker with job offset abilities. Optional outputs 5 bin, 7 bin and 8 bin mailboxes.

Duplex:

Auto duplex is fitted as standard on the MFP model.

Memory:

56 MB RAM expandable to 192 MB Optional 2GB disk

Interface:

Parallel Interface.

Network:

Ethernet via JetDirect 600n

Network Protocols:

Protocols as per the specification for the JetDirect 600n.

System Compatability:

Microsoft Windows 95/98/ 2000/Me/ NT/XP, Apple Mac OS 8.6-9.x.

Dimensions:

21.6 x 22.3 x 20.5 in.

Consumables:

All in one cartridge giving ease of use. The only other part likely to need regular replacement is the fuser.

Fuser:

A fuser adheres toner to the page using a combination of heat and pressure.

There are sometimes refurbished fusers available for these printers. The usual cautions apply - refurbished fusers save money and lessen the environmental impact of printing somewhat, however they do raise more issues and are only recommended for experienced engineers.
