HP LaserJet M2727 MFP series
The M2727 is a multifuntion A4 printer, scanner, copier and fax intended for small offices and particularly suited to network sharing.
M2727nf - CB532A - 26ppm 1200 dpi mono printer with fax and copier ability and colour scanner.
M2727nfs - CB533A - Same as the above with an extra tray and a stapler
The print engine for the M2727 is based on the P2015 printer, successor to the very popular LaserJet 1320.
The M2727 was introduced in November 2007 and is still selling in 2010. Pricing on websites varied from £440 up. Competitors include the Brother MFC-8860DN and Xerox WorkCentre 3550
The M2727 is mid-range in HPs multifunction line-up. It has proved a very popoular machine. Less capable (but cheaper) models are the M1212 and M1536 and the next model up is the M3027.
Control:
A full copier / fax control panel with numeric keypad. 2 Line LCD display.
Duty Cycle:
Maximum duty cycle 15,000 print pages and 2,250 scanned pages. Recommended monthly volume 350 to 3,000 pages.
Print Speed:
26 pages per minute. First page out in under 10 seconds.
In the small office environments the M2727 partiularly suits the instant-on fuser will often give printing twice as quickly as printers that don't have the feature.
Print Resolution:
Up to 1200x1200 dpi. REt, HP FastRes, HP ProRes, HP TrueRes.
Scanner Abilities:
Flatbed scanner with 50 sheet ADF. Optical resolution 1200dpi enhanced up to 19200 dpi. 24 bit, 256 level grey scale. Scannable area 216x297mm. Scan margins 4mm all round. Scanner lamp is LED based and needs no warm-up time to stabilise. Scanner is TWAIN standard.
Copy Abilities:
A4 copier, up to 99 copies at 600 dpi resolution. Zoom from 25 to 400%. Up to 26 copies per minute. ADF copy speed is 17.5cpm. Resolution 600x600dpi. Up to 99 sequential copies. Reduction and enlargement from 25% to 400%. Automatic two-sided printing and copying.
Fax Abilities:
33.6Kbps - 3 seconds per page. Standard resolution - 203x98dpi. Fine mode 203x196dpi. Superfine 300x300dpi with no halftone. Up to 600 pages of fax memory
Fax and Print simultaneously. Junk fax filter capability.
Paper Handling:
A4. Multifunction tray 50 sheets. 250 sheet built in cassette. Optional Tray 3. Duplex as standard.
Tray 1:
Fold down multifunction tray for up to 50 sheets of paper, 10 transparencies or 10 envelopes. Sizes A4, A5, A6. Any size from 76x127 to 216x356mm. Media weights 60 to 163 gsm. Heavier media will need to use the straight-through paper path to the rear drop down tray.
Tray 2:
Slides into the printer base. 50 sheets A4, A5, 148x210 to 216x356mm. Media weights 60 to 120 gsm. For spare cassettes buy RM1-4251
Tray 3:
Optional tray under the printer, provided on the M2727nfs. 250 sheets A4, A5, 148x210 to 216x356mm. Media weights 60 to 120 gsm.
A 20 sheet "convenience stapler" is fitted on the M2727NFS
Duplex is fitted as standard on both models of the M2727.

Motorola ColdFire V5e at 450MHz.

Ships with sufficient memory for most use but the memory can be expanded for graphics intensive tasks

As usual with a laser printer the power consumption peak is high when the fuser operates. Most UPS models are not capable of powering a laser printer.

As with most mono printers refurbished cartridges may be a good option but the Smart Printing technology to show toner level and automatically re-order may not work.
Fuser Unit:
The fuser in a laser printer adheres toner to the page using a combination of heat and pressure. Although the fuser has a long life it loses it's non stick properties with long use and the foil sleeve will ultimately wear through and tear. At that point it is normal to replace the whole fuser.

RM1-4247 is the US 110 Volt version
Replacing the HP P2014 / P2015 / M2727MFP fuser is not the easy job expected with larger printers. All the covers have to be removed, so does the fan, the duplex or face-down gear, several other gears and the formatter. This problem was present in the earlier 1160/1320 design that the P2015 is based on. If you don't have experience of technical work on printers it may be better to get a technician to do the job.

Spares for the ADF
Most faults with the ADF will just require the pick roller assembly and its matching pad to be replaced. A set of replacement hinges will be needed if the scanner lid is stressed
