HP Laserjet M5025MFP (Q7840A) and M5035MFP (Q7829A)

Wide format printer handling A3 (11x 17.7 inch), scanner and copier with fax and digital sending capabilities.

The LaserJet M5025MFP and M5035MFP work at speeds suiting "workteams" - 25 or 35 pages per minute. The print mechansim is monochrome but the scanner supports colour.

The M5025MFP works at up to 25 pages per minute letter and the M5035MFP at 35 pages per minute. A4 performance is fractionally slower.

All models have Network connection and USB. There is also an open EIO slot. All models also have a 40GB hard disk which supports security features such as print on PIN as well as document capture and digital sending abilities.

  • HP LaserJet M5025MFP - Q7840A - A3 capable, A4 at 25 ppm, no fax, network, multifunction + 2 trays, duplex optional.
  • HP LaserJet M5035MFP - Q7829A - A3 capable, A4 at 35ppm, no fax, network, multifunction + 2 trays, duplex optional.
  • HP LaserJet M5035X MFP - Q7830A - A3 capable, A4 at 35 ppm, fax, network, multifunction + 2x250 sheet trays, 500 sheet tray 4 and a storage-cabinet stand, duplex included.
  • HP LaserJet M5035XS MFP - Q7831A - A3 capable, A4 at 35 ppm, fax,network, multifunction + 2x 250 sheet trays, 500 sheet trays 4,5 and 6, duplex included.

Secure printing protects documents in several ways. Print jobs can be held and released on entry of a 4 digit user PIN number. Network Authentication using LDAP allows administrators to limit facilities depending on user log in information. Secure IPP, HTTPS and IPsec give network security. HP Universal Print Driver gives easy installation and support. Similar functionality limited to A4 and letter paper is delivered by the M3027 and M3035 series.

The print engine for the M3035 series is reliable, based on the LJ5200. This new family of MFPs launched in November 2006.

Control:

Intuitive control panel suited to the machines photocopier and fax roll. An LCD touch-screen graphical display, numeric keypad, start and stop buttons.

There is a built in web server for general monitoring and control.

HP Web Jetadmin is available. This allows usage by user tracking, firmware installation, device configuration and remote diagnostics from a central point.

Duty Cycle:

HP claim a capability up to 155,000 pages per month (some sources say 200,000). The recommended monthly print volume is 3,000 to 12,500 pages.

25 or 35 pages per minute on letter according to model. A4 is slightly slower. A3 will be at about half this speed - The LJ5200 has A4 at 35ppm and A3 at 18ppm. First page out in 8 seconds.

1200 x 1200 dpi and Resolution Enhancement technology "REt".

Scanner Abilities:

Flatbed scanner with a 50 sheet ADF. Scanner resolution is 600x600dpi and 256 level greyscale. Maximum scan size is 11x17 inches approx (297x420mm approx - scan margins 5mm at sides and 6mm at top and bottom). The ADF on the M5035 models is auto-reversing for duplex.

Send to mail and to network folder are standard. Digital sending to PDF, TIFF, PCL and MTIFF is an option, as is HP Autostore.

Copy Abilities:

Up to 1000 copies. Up to 25 copies per minute. Zoom from 25 to 400%.

Paper Handling:

A3, A4 and optional auto-duplex. Option for multiple trays. Auto Duplex option.

Paper path handling: A3 from a fold down multifunction tray on the printer side. There are two built in 250 sheet trays. Up to 3 extra 500 sheet trays can be placed under the print engine giving a total of 6 trays. All trays are rated for 60 to 105 gsm paper weights.

Tray 1: Fold-down multipurpose tray with capacity for 100 sheets. Paper sizes 3x5 to 12.8x18.5 inches (76x127 to 312x470mm).

Tray 2: 250 sheet tray built in under the printer. Paper sizes A4 etc - 5.83x8.27 to 11.7x14.33 inches (148x210 to 297x364mm)

Tray 3: 250 sheet tray built in under the printer. Paper sizes A3 etc - 5.83x8.27 to 11.7x17 inches (148x210 to 297x432mm)

Duplex:

Auto duplex is included on the "X" models and optional on others.

Processor:

460MHz processor embedded in a custom ASIC.

Memory:

256 MB DDR RAM (fixed) expandable to 512MB via a DDR DIMM slot. Memory Enhancement technology "MEt" is used to pack data into the available memory space. All models have a 40GB hard disk for print job storage.

Interface:

A "JetDirect inside" embedded 10/100 Base-T port is built in on all models. There is also a Foreign Interface Harness (FIH) port.

There is a USB type B port for direct connection to a nearby PC if this is required. The machine will work as a copier and fax without needing a connection to a PC. There is also a type A USB port for adding accessories to the printer - although there is limited choice at present. There is one open EIO slot. The M5035X and M5035XS have analog fax boards.

System Compatability:

To get the full range of facilities provided users will need the supported operating systems - currently Mac OS X v 10.3.9 or higher; Microsoft Server 2003, Windows XP and Vista. The printer has a PostScript emulation and will work with most operating systems.

Enviroment:

Economode setting saves up to 50% of toner use at 600dpi settings with some loss of print darkness. An instant-on fuser allows rapid return to powersave after printing. Option for duplex printing save paper. N-up printing supported in driver saves paper.

Power:

110 to 127 Volts or 220 to 240 Volts.

Consumables:

Single cartridge with toner, drum, developer and waste receptacle. The printer can also have an automatic stapler.

Fuser:

As usual there are fusers for the UK and European mains voltage at 220 volts and for US and Japanese mains at 110 Volt.

Although the M5025 and M5035 run at rather different speeds they both take the same fuser and maintenance kits.

The maintenance kits provide a fuser for the appropriate voltage and a set of rollers for the main body of the printer.
