HP Laserjet P1500

A4 at up to 23pages per minute with 600 dpi resolution enhanced to FastRes 1200.

The P1505 is a small -footprint laserprinter for individual use. This printer is "host based"; it relies on a driver on the local computer (Windows or Mac) rendering the pages. The P1505N is an Ethernet network version aimed at small office use, it can handle the PCL5e language but that means it will tend to be more expensive.

The printer style is somewhat like the P2015 and rather different to the P1000 series (P1005, P1006) with which this printer shares an underlying mechanism. The idea seems to be market positioning; this design is aimed at an office environment. Unfortunately the P1500 design doesn't have an auoto duplex ability - the P2015d is the model with that.

Nevertheless the P1500 is nearly as fast with around 23ppm; the P2015 gives 27ppm and the P1500n adds network capability.

Competitor products are things like the very similarly named Dell P1500 which is similarly host-based and has a slightly lower rated speed and a slightly slower 200MHz processor but a larger 16MB RAM.

Control:

Four lights for Go, Ready, Attention and Toner Low. Two buttons for Go and Job Cancel. All other controls are via the Windows or Mac driver.

Duty Cycle:

8,000 pages per month

Typical use would be under 1,00 pages per month.

is to 23 pages per minute. Actual speeds will depend markedly on the PC used but in practice reviewers usually seem impressed by the speed.

at 600x600dpi enhanced by FastRes 1200. Use of a special toner means print is clean looking. Limited memory of 2MB in the basic model may mean banding of pictures. The network model has an 8MB RAM.

Paper Handling:

is A4 A5, A6, postcards and envelopes C5, DL and B5. There is a single tray holding up to 250 sheets and a "priority override" slot handling 10 sheets.

Paper sizes: in the tray are from 147x211mm to 216x356mm. The priority feed slot can take items down to 76x127 with the same upper limit.

The output tray on top takes up to 150 sheets face-down.

There is no automatic duplex ability or option however the driver does aid manual duplex feeding.

Processor:

266 MHz. The processor is inside an ASIc and is standard across the printer series. In host based printers it probably doesn't do a great deal except avoid delaying the pages.

Memory:

Memory is not expandable. The base model has 2MB and the "N" model has 8MB built into the SIP ASIC.

Interface:

The P1500 has USB 2.0 Hi-Speed. The P1505 has both USB and a basic 10/100 Ethernet networking capability.

The P1505 is a host-based printer so there is no language support. The P1505n supports PCL5e which is widely supported.

Systems: Windows 2000, XP Vista. Mac OS X v 10.12.8 or higher. Power PC G3, G4, G5, Intel Core Processor.

Power Consumption:

0.8 watts "off". 3.9 watts ready/sleep and 300 watts printing.

Dimension:

379 x 243 x 225 mm.
