HP Laserjet P3015

A4 / US letter laser printer with a print speed up to 40ppm and resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. There is a 4 line LCD control panel and most models have a numeric keypad for users to type a passcode. These printers also have a Host USB 2.0 port for walk-up printing from a USB pen.

Features of the series are:

100 sheet multipurpose tray to handle letterhead, envelopes and special paper.
Built in 500 sheet paper cassette extendable with an extra tray.
Fold down face-up output flap for heavy media feed.
250 sheet face-down bin on top of the printer.
Duplex option built in on the "d" and "x" models.
Easy to install print cartridge.
Host USB 2.0 ports for walk up printing of PDF and PRN files.
High speed rear USB 2.0 port for direct connection to a computer.
Gigabit Ethernet integrated in "n" and "x" models.
Large memory to process complex print jobs quickly.
Two internal accessory ports. One open EIO slot. A hardware integration pocket.

What these printers lack compared with the LJ P4015 is expansion options. The extras that can be added include an input tray and some memory, but not the tower input configuration and collating stackers of the larger machine.

P3015, Base Model, 100 sheet multipurpose and 500 sheet main tray 96MB RAM Max 608MB,
P3015d, Duplex Model with 128MB RAM Max 640MB. 10 key number pad.
P3015dn, Duplex together with a Gigabit Ethernet embedded print server.
P3015x, Duplex, network and an extra 500 sheet tray.

An unusual feature of these printers is the hardware integration pocket behind the control panel. This is intended to allow HP or "partner" solutions to be inegrated into the printer - for instance a swipe -card reader to automate user identification and avoid the need to hand-enter PINs. Essentially the connection is a USB cable but HP's hardware will only recognise certain devices.

The Laserjet Enterprise P3015 is no relation of the Laserjet 3015 which is a much older multifunction machine - hence perhaps HP's idea of inserting the word "Enterprise" in the name. Since the full name is too long users will typically call the machine a "3015" so there is a danger of confusion.

Control:

All the printers have a four-line LCD display to display consumable status, user prompts and help information. All except the base model also have a ten key numeric keypad to give user personal identifiers (PINs).

Duty Cycle:

Duty cycle (monthly, A4): Up to 100,000 pages.

HP use the duty cycle as an indication of how robust the machine is compared with other printers in their own range.

Print Speed:

A fast printer intended for business departmental use.

Up to 40 pages per minute speed.

First page out in 7.5 seconds from ready mode.

Actual performance will depend somewhat on the system(s) providing data and on document complexity. If the printer slows down on complex documents more memory may be needed.
