HP Original Inks
HP OfficeJet Pro K550
Thermal inkjet using 4 individual cartridges for black, cyan, magenta, yellow. Dye colours and pigment black. HP claim the cost per page can be as low as 7.7 US cents for colour print, up to 30% lower than the cheaper kind of colour laser printers which are direct competitors for this kind of printer.
Models:
- HP Officejet Pro K550 - C8157A - colour inkjet printer with 1 tray. Duplex can be added
- HP Officejet Pro K550dtn - C8158A - colour inkjet with 250 and 350 sheet trays, duplex and network
- HP Officejet Pro K550dtwn - C8159A - colour inkjet with 250 and 350 sheet trays, duplex, wired and wireless network.
The paper path suits A4, US letter and smaller sizes. The basic model has a large 250 sheet paper feed tray. A second 350 sheet tray and a duplex option are included on the "DTN" model.
The basic printer has a USB 2.0 port. The DTN version has both USB and wired networking. The DTWN version adds 802.11b/g wireless as well.
Control:
Buttons with graphical icons together with lights for printer and wireless network status. Built in web-server running remote management software shows consumable life and includes a job accounting function.
Duty Cycle:
HP suggest up to 7,500 pages per month (robust for an inkjet). Long life cartridges:
- 2,350 pages for black
- 1,200 pages for colour
The throughput rating is high for an inkjet but not comparable with mid-range laser printers which might be given ppm's of 20,000 pages or more. However the implied 250 pages per day is a great deal more than most small offices actually print.
Print Speed:
Designed to compete with small office laser printers on speed as well as cost:
- Black Draft Quality: Up to 37 pages per minute
- Black Normal Quality: Up to 16 pages per minute
- "Laser Quality": 12 pages per minute
- Black Best Quality: Up to 5 pages per minute
- Colour Draft Quality: Up to 33 pages per minute
- Colour Normal Quality: Up to 16 pages per minute
- "Laser Quality": 10 pages per minute
- Colour Best Quality: Up to 5 pages per minute
HP claim "Laser Quality Speed" - high quality printing at high speed.
