HP B5L28A Internal USB Ports

For Laserjet M604, M605, M606 and M552 / M553 Series Printers

The internal USB Port board is a little unit that mounts alongside the formatter card within the printer to give it access to USB devices internally. It comes with several plastic adapters to hold the board in place and a set of four cables for interconnection.

If the B5L28A is used for internal storage of information then an alternative would be the B5L29A secure hard disk.

In operation the B5L28A seems to be intended as a host controller - that is you plug USB devices such as memory sticks, cameras and scanners into it - rather than use it to connect to extra host computers (although like a lot of USB devices it may be capable of either, drivers permitting) .

There is a pictorial guide as an instruction leaflet. HP seem to be trying to say everything wihout words - which either makes the leaflet multilingual or incomprehensible - depending on your standpoint.

So far as we know the B5L28A is not explicitly needed for any HP accessory listed on the accessories page . It is used to extend the printer by adding things like swipe card or RF card activation and other third party add-ons.

Supply Situation

The B5L28A is intended for special situations where printers are integrated with third party add-ons such as swipe card, bar-code or RF readers or possibly into a production line where it might make sense to talk to the printer's own operating system and software rather than to an external device and then talk to the printer via it's ordinary USB or Ethernet port. System integrators will want these things; nobody else much will?

There were non in UK distribution in April 2015; they are probably ordered from HP European stock as needed.

Usually available on 5-7 day lead time, our catalogue pages will reflect the situation.
