HP CB522A Stacker/Stapler for HP P4014 Series Printers.

The HP CB522A Part is the HP Laserjet 500-sheet Stapler/Stacker for use in the HP Laserjet P4014, P4015 series Printers.

The stacker/stapler CB522A looks like and functions quite like the basic stacker CB521A. The difference is mainly that this machine has a stapler capable of pinning up to 15 pages together built into it's right hand side. To hold a sheaf of pages ready for stapling the stacker/stapler has an extra tray called the jogger which closes on the sheets to make them into a neat pile. The CB522A is very similar in functionality and innards to theQ2443B used for the LaserJet 4250 and 4350. The CB522A has been succeeded by the CE405-67901 intended for the Enterprise 600 M601, M602 and M603 printers.

Because it collates documents prior to stapling them, and because the stapling groups the jobs together the stapler-stacker gives a measure of job collation and sorting which the CB521A stacker seems to lack.

The stacker fits onto the top rear of the printer and provides one additional 500 sheet output bin. Staples go in the right side of the stapler. Documents coming out of the top of the machine are face-down and the stapler needs to be in the body of the machine so the printer turns the page through 180 degrees.

A solenoid in the stacker/stapler changes works a flapper in the printer which diverts paper from going to the face-down tray so it goes up through the accessory slot. As paper gets into the stacker its own feed motor takes over and places the page in the jogger.

The stacker/stapler contains a couple of solenoids, three additional motors and another in the stapler itself. The stapler has a limited life but it is a replaceable module.

Warranty: The stacker accessory was apparently supplied with a one year return to base warranty, however those will have expired unless they were extended. Refurbed units normally carry a 90 day warranty.

As usual with accessories try the machine without it fitted to eliminate possible causes one at a time. Try the diagnostics menu.

A printer equipped with a stacker will usually have one or more accessory trays such as 500 sheet input feeder CB518A.

The stacker/stapler doesn't have a collection of alternate part numbers and that implies substantial stability in the design.

Query CB522-67901 gave the more interesting result -

Part CB522-67901 is no longer supplied. Please order the replacement, CE405-67901

... however when we examine the product list for CE405-67901 the printers it fits are the M601, M602, M603 - and the P4014 is not mentioned.

Icecat says this output-stacker has both a short public code CB522A and three GTINs (EAN/UPC) 8835852799374, 0883585279937, 5711045058738.

Alternate part numbers are: CB522-67901, CB522A and HWP-CB522A

This accessory CB522A seems to be for use in the HP Laserjet P4014, P4015 series Printers only. Firm evidence that CE405A (CE405-67901) is backward compatible is lacking.
