HP Original Cartridges

Memory

Welcome to the whacky world of printer memory!

Manufacturer prices for printer memory often seem rather high.

You might see it as taking the opportunity to milk the market.

They probably see it as making available a specialist part with low sales, but high support, logistics and stocking costs.

Reliable Remanufactured Cartridges

One of the merits of the P4014 against a new printer is the low cost of good re-manufactured cartridges.

At the moment we don't sell in the US, but we hope to soon

HP Part CE483A is a 512 megabyte 144-pin DDR2 memory device. It is used in printer formatters to expand the working memory, particularly the pagebuffer, font memory and workspace for memory-heavy languages like PostScript.

We believe the module will work in all P4014, P4015, P4515 and M601 series models that have an unoccupied memory slot on the formatter. HP Partsurfer gives a "used in" list for that specific code that has just the P4015TN, P4515TN.   However for the code CC413-67901 and so forth it lists the Enterprise 600 M601 series - and sure enough they have the same socket on the formatter board.

Memory is implemented as a 144 pin DDR2 DIMM.   144 Pin was a standard for a long time, but DDR2 on that pinout not so much - there are lots of offers on eBay and Amazon but they appear to be mismatches.

Printer makers very often use the SO-DIMM format and unconventional processors. From their point of view they can get a good deal on a specially designed proprietary processor and formatter chip from a team that knows the print business (PMC-Sierra makes the formatter for HP and also works for Ricoh). With HP LJ-P4014 and M601 series probably selling in millions its good business for the chip-makers as well. However there is a problem with the memory specifications not necessarily being mass-market.

What HP says about it is HP LaserJet DDR2 DIMMs improve your printer's perfomance with increased memory. Complete complex jobs faster and reduce the load on your network with enhanced data flow.

One of those mouseover enlargement pictures on HPs website gives a bit more information. Along the top the memory says PG61G144FUBUB1RB Rev C. SMART 2006 and the chips are four Micron OAG22 D9JVW and an STE02R2 K010. SMART Modular Technologies "has a long history of partnering with customers to satisfy their specific design needsand when we looked at their website it confirmed that was the sort of product number they might use for a custom job.

A memory properly matched to a processor is unlikely to fail. In the event that it does there is no practical repair, replacement is the only option.

If memory is suspect you could run Memtest-86 or suchlike, (if only you could find a notebook computer that took the same specification of memory.) The procesor chip in the formatter is an HP proprietary device made by PMC-Sierra with "1825-0264" and RM2400B-PGC written on it. PMC have a series of MIPS based printer chips.

The CE483A was one of a series of memory upgrades. We haven't bothered listing the other separately as we doubt anyone would bother with them; but they are:

256 MBCC415ACC415-67901

HP Information

A query to Partsurfer in 2013 for CE483A:

Repeated in July 2015

CE483A HP 512 MB 144-pin x32 DDR2 DIMM

Icecat shows for this memory a short product code CE483A-HY and one GTIN (EAN/UPC) code: 5050914306861. There are 681 public views on this part

HP gives no alternate numbers - and In July 2015 nor did Crucial.

These memories fit the P4014 and M601 series formatters - both have the same socket.

The DIMM simply clips into position.

Supply Situation

Printer internal components often have one global manufacturer ... that may seem unlikely in this case as its a memory DIMM on a fairly standard pinout.

In July 2013 parts were offered both new and refurbished. In July 2015 the parts were listed but non of our distributors showed stock - and neither did HP.co.uk website. .

The part was listed by one distributor in July 2013 with some stock. In July 2015 three listed it - but with no stock. We think demand for the part will be very low.

We may be able to provide this parts when required. The price in July 2013 was about £429 but had risen to £470 in July 2015.

These are guidelines, our prices change with distribution lists - see the catalog. Stock numbers indicate there is not much call for the part.
