HP Designjet Z2100 Printer.

The HP Designjet Z2100 are 24 inch and 44 inch photo printers with roll feed. Launched in 2009 they are aimed at graphic designers, fine artists and photographers who need to create high-quality, large format prints. Its an 8 ink printer (so without the colour gamut of the 12 ink Z3100 and Z3200). It does have a spectrophotometer built in for automatic media profiling.

HP say the US street-price for the Z2100 is $3,575. In January 2014 we are seeing an actual UK street price for the base (non Postscript) model of about £1600.

Control:

Touch-sensitive front panel in color, with an intuitive graphical user interface. All settings are available by touching the tool icon and following the prompts.

• The Embedded Web Server, runs in the printer and enables you to use a Web browser on any computer to perform the HP-GL/2 Upgrade and to check ink levels and printer status.
• From time to time firmware updates will be available from Hewlett-Packard. These updates increase the printer's functionality and enhance its features.These can be downloaded from the Internet and installed in your printer

Duty Cycle:

We haven't come across any specific recommendations from HP on usage expectations. Obviously a printer with these relatively small 29ml and 80ml cartridges will not be particularly economical to run compared with larger machines in HP's Designjet lineup.

Options are: Best, Normal and Fast.

If you select Fast, you can also select Economode, which uses a lower rendering resolution and consumes less ink. It therefore increases printing speed even further, but reduces print quality.
