HP E6B67-67913 cassette

For Laserjet M604, M605, M606 Series Printers

cassette E6B67-67913 sketch

E6B67-67913 is the product code given in the user guide for replacement cassettes for the LaserJet M604, M605 and M606 laser printers. The cassette is the slide-in part of tray 2. Cassettes are sometimes needed to allow a swift change of paper (that was the original idea). A significant need for cassettes is that they get broken. The cassette itself is quite substantially made from ABS plastic and weighs about 1.5 kilos. A ream of paper weighs 2.5 kilos so when a cassette gets dropped they sometimes take some damage.

The E6B67-67913 also has the engineering part number RM2-6296-000CN as a tray-2 cassette and a very similar cassette is RM2-6275-000CN as part of a feeder unit. (HP have put the label "2" on the fascia of cassette 2; this may remove confusion in userland where people forget about the multipurpose tray-1.

The cassettes on HP's top end mono laser printers have had a pretty stable design since the LaserJet 4200 launched in 2002 although only a few of the parts are actually the same. Basically the thing is a plastic drawer with a metal lift-plate in the bottom. The lift plate is driven by a motor in the printer engaging a quarter-moon cog on the side of the cassette so that paper rises into place until it activates the top-of-stack sensor. At this point the top sheet of paper is aimed at the nip-point between the feed roller in the printer and the separation roller in the centre front of the cassette. There are self-centring guides on either side running along a toothed rack so that the guides can lock in position. These guides have detents at intervals so that they tend to move automatically to standard paper sizes. A locking thumb-grip releases the guides so they can move. Likewise there is an end-stop or back-stop for the paper on a toothed rack running down the middle of the tray and a locking grip for it on the end-stop. Labels embossed on the tray give the user a good idea of the correct positions. A little mechanism on the right side of the cassette tells the printer the length of the paper loaded.

The cassette is used for standard office paper sizes, A4, A5 and the US sizes letter and legal. For paper sizes A5 and below the F2G75A custom tray is required.

What HP Say

In June 2015 HP mention E6B67-67913 in the user guide and list it in "Order supplies, accessories and parts". Partsurfer lists the components of the printer including RM2-6296. Otherwise Google finds nothing at all. We shall have to return to researching the subject.

Media Sizes

The cassette is A4/US-Letter in width and adjusts from A5 thickness to Legal length. When it is stretched full length the "legal cover" on the back of the printer is nudged open so there needs to be clearance for this to happen. That shouldn't be a problem as the IEC mains cable protrudes in this area and the specification for the printer says space for ventilation must be allowed. Most printers have the duplexer fitted - and it takes up much more space.

Weight

1.5 kilos approximately.

In June 2015 HP Partsurfer doesn't respond to E6B67-67913:

HP Partsurfer shows for RM2-6296-000CN:

… and lists …

HP LaserJet Enterprise M604n Prntr

HP LaserJet Managed M605xm Prntr

HP Partsurfer shows for RM2-6275-000CN:

500-sheet feeder paper input tray cassette assembly - Just the cassette

… and lists the same printers.

Again, in June 2015 Icecat does not provide any information for these parts. No doubt there is some relationship between whatever drives partsurfer and what drives Icecat?

E6B67-67913 is given in the User guide. RM2-6296-000CN seems to be the engineering part listed in Partsurfer.hp.com.   RM2-6275-000CN is a very similar part with a fascia suited to use with an accessory feeder unit - it has a window displaying the tray number.

These cassettes are for the HP LaserJet Enterprise M604, M605 and M606 printers only. Principles of operation are identical to the cassettes used on previous printers. Plastics are changed.

Web Research

A google Query on E6B67-67913 in June 2015 gave About 530 results (0.53 seconds) They all appeared to be HP's "Order Supplies, Accessories and Parts" page in various translations.

E6B67-67913
feeder unit

As part of a feeder tray the code is RM2-6275-000CN and says "500-sheet feeder paper input tray cassette assembly - Just the cassette" (in case anyone thinks they'll get the whole feeder unit).

Supply Situation

Whilst cassettes are commonly bought as a result of accidental damage there are non in circulation in June 2015.
