HP F2G68A 500 Sheet Feeder Cassette

For Laserjet M604, M605, M606 Series Printers

The 500 sheet feeder adds an extra cassette tray to HP Laserjet M604 series printers. If you buy the LaserJet M605x or M606x one extra tray comes with the printer - as well as the automatic duplexer and the touch-screen control panel.

The printer stacks on top of the feeder unit, electrically connecting through a socket at the rear right. Depending on operating system facilities you may need to tell the print-driver that the accessory has been installed.

Paper specifications and behaviour are much the same as for the main cassette. The same pickup, feed and separation roller set are used. HP kit E6B67-67905 replaces the rollers when they wear out. (As we point out elsewhere, these machines are highly maintainable). Replacement cassettes for the feeder itself seems to be a different part number RM2-6275-000CN.

Up to four F2G68A feeder units can be used.

However a normal configuration is to use three of the F2G68A units (including any that came with an "X" model printer) and one of the F2G73A 1500 sheet front loading cabinet feeders. The front loading cabinet provides a bulk supply of paper, whilst the cassettes provide letterhead, coloured sheets, or A5 as needed. In that case you also need the stand. We don't yet know whether older accessories from the M601 series might work with the M604 series. What often happens is that newer accessories will work with older printers. This is probably because the microprocessors in the accessories contain updated firmware that is not backwards compatible. (Accessories run on an I²C bus).
