HP F2G71A Stacker

For Laserjet M604, M605, M606 Series Printers

top-right-photo

The F2G71A stacker adds a second output bin on top of the printer. Within it print jobs are positioned left or right to keep them distinct.

This isn't the sort of device that gets rave reviews, its just one of life's little conveniences. On a shared printer it is quite handy if the stack of pages from one job look a little distinct from those of the previous one - it saves leafing through to find out if you have picked up someone eleses material by mistake.

The stapler-stacker F2G72A is possibly more effective if the average document is several pages long (but not more than 15). That is a rather more complicated device.

The 5bin mailbox F2G81A gives more output positions, so there migh be one per section or even per worker sharing a printer. These aren't the lockable mailboxes found on some high end machines however.

What most of us probably want is an intelligent stapler and book-binding machine. Unfortunately we have to live with what is affordable.

What HP Say

Overview

Improve workflow management and accommodate multiple users by upgrading your printer to automatic sheet stacking. Monitor your printer less frequently with convenient job sorting in the additional output bin.

Features

  • Large 500 sheet tray expands your printer output capacity and accomodates multiple users' jobs.
  • Save time finding your print job with jobs sorted into neat stacks.

The F2G71A is the successor to the M601 series CE404A and the P4014 CB521A and the Q2442B used with the LaserJet 4250 and 4350. It is very similar in appearance but the older devices will not be forward compatible as firmware revisions change.

The stacker contains a solenoid which selects either the normal printer output bin or a rout into the stacker itself according to print job control instructions. There is also a motor to lift paper the final couple of inches into the stacker tray.

Installation

The output option cover is removed from the printer (and stored where it can be found again). The F2G71A stacker slides into position in the opening. The printer configuration page should list it as an accessory. Depending on your operating system the computer may pick up the new component on the first use of the printer. If the stacker was installed after the printer driver Windows machines may need to be explicitly told it is present.

The F2G71A and alternatives are listed on the accessories page .

Supply Situation

Output accessories for HP's fast printers are not as common as they might be. Printers are priced very low to attract buyers and cartridge sales but there isn't such cometition on the accessories so they look expensive by comparrison.

The F2G71A is being listed by UK distributors although In May 2015 without stock. Presumably orders from HP European stock will be met in 5-7 days.

Usually available 5-7 days from order - our catalogue pages will reflect the situation.
