HP F2G75A Custom Cassette

For Laserjet M604, M605, M606 Series Printers

HP face-on-photoannotated sketchpostcards sketch

Cassette tray 2 on the LaserJet M604 is designed for easy and reliable use with standard paper sizes such as A4 and US-letter. The paper guides and end-stop have very positive detents at positions suiting standard sized paper and there is a broad lift tray giving plenty of support to the paper. Standard trays are marked for Legal, A4, Letter, Exec JIS-B5 and A5.   They can't accept anything smaller such as A6 because the lift plate is in the way of the guides. A disadvantage is that the standard tray doesn't suit some non-standard tasks like postcards, index cards, licences and labels so well. The F2G75A can do this.

What HP Say

The 400-sheet Custom Media Tray gives you the flexibility to print small jobs on different media. It has been designed to support some of the smaller media sizes that currently are not supported on the standard input tray.

Extend the functionality of your HP printer by using the additional 400-sheet Custom Media tray to meet your smaller printing requirements.

Designed to support some of the smaller media sizes that currently are not supported on the standard input tray.

Holds smaller paper sizes ranging from 102 x 170 mm (4.0 x 6.7 in) to 148 x 282 mm (5.8 x 11.1 in) and media weight 60 to 135 g/m2 (16 to 36 lb).

The F2G75A custom media cassette is better suited to these less common tasks. It is designed for up to 400 sheets of:

  • Statement
  • 5 x 7
  • 5 x 8
  • A5
  • A6
  • B6 (JIS)
  • Double Japan Postcard Rotated
  • Double Postcard (JIS)

The cassette is pretty much standard except for the smaller lift plate allowing smaller guide adjustments. There is a fill-line ∇ ∇ ∇ on one of the guides - don't exceed it even if it does seem to work.

No other accessory is necessary to use the custom cassette. Duplex printing is not possible with most of the paper sizes it handles - the duplexer cannot narrow down to the widths required.

The F2G75A cassette will only work in the M604, M605, and M606 and only in cassette tray-2 position on those machines.   The cassette may physically fit other positions in a stack but won't reliably pass the short forms between the sets of rollers on the way up.

F2G75A won't fit earlier machines such as the M601 series (nor their trays in it's place) because the fascia is different. The tray for the P4014 and M601 series is CB527A

HP Partsurfer showed nothing about F2G75A or F2G75-67901.   Partsurfer is aimed at spares and tends to ignore accessory items - although there often isn't much distinction .

Ordinarily there is an engineering exchange unit number for a part but there doesn't seem to be one in this case.

Spares for the ordinary cassette are E6B67-67913.

For problems with cassettes that are broken or have an engineering issue see the extended writeup on the RM1-4559, it may be helpful.

Web Research

A google Query on F2G75A in June 2015 gave About 6,170 results (0.41 seconds) with the first in organic search being as follows:

Sites are as encountered in the order Google found them. Nothing but catalogue sites were found, all presenting the same information. The price given is what was seen. Our site users are often not UK based, so currency conversion wouldn't help them. (Conversion would be difficult as well, raising questions about how to repeat it dynamically). Engineering information about the part was not found, perhaps not surprisingly; it is neither common nor very complicated.

The standard cassette slides out of the machine. It may be necessary to lift slightly at the rear left to remove it entirely. The custom cassette slides in in it's place. To inform the printer of the change go to Administration > Manage Trays > Tray-2 Model > Custom Tray > OK .

Computer print-drivers will need to offer support for the custom sizes.

Supply Situation

To be honest, we don't think the F2G75A is going to be a massive hit with buyers in the UK.   Like Europeans generally we tend to use A4 for almost everything from reports to despatch notes. Buyers for a cassette like this have something very specific in mind probably relating to labelling or ticketing. The robustness of laser print might be more appealing than thermal labelling for instance. The price of the cassette is high as well - the bad side of £160 - and you could buy a small printer for that - but on the other hand you wouldn't get the M604/5 series maintainability and low running costs.

The F2G75A cassette is listed by UK distributors but when we checked in June 2015 non actually had stock. Delivery times are probably a few days from HP European stock.

Usually available for delivery within a week - our catalogue pages will reflect the situation.
