HP RC2-2432 Fuser Drive for HP P4014 Series Printers.

HP Part RC2-2432 is the fuser side plate connecting the fuser motor to the fuser itself in HP P4014 series printers. The part number isn't found in HP partsurfer - it hasn't been made available by HP.

RC2-2432 fits the P4014, P4015 and P4515 printers and all their N, TN, X and XM variants.

The side plate is roughly triangular with half a dozen cogs driven from the fuser motor which engages the fine-tooth helical cog. There is one brown cog to deal with the high temperature of the fuser itself. The cog chain the other way drives the RM1-4548 paper feed guide belts leading into the fuser.

RC2-2432

LaserXperts, inc gave a list of the cogs so we did a bit more research and got:

  • Gear 23T/19T RU6-0166 - paper path final drive 3, white
  • Gear 17T RU6-0167 - paper path transmission 1
  • 15T RU6-0169 - paper path transmission 2
  • 25T/91T 25T/91T RU6-0170 - motor drive gear
  • 33T x 35T RU6-0172 - fuser drive 1
  • 33T RU6-0171 - brown gear fuser drive final 2

Other gears associated with the fuser are: RU6-0165 17T, RU6-0164 18T, RU6-0170 (25T/91T), GR-P4014-32T (32 tooth gear)

The side plate is a chain of reduction gears stepping down the power from the fuser motor and increasing the torque to overcome the substantial friction of the fuser pressure roller.

The motor is RM1-5051 and the fuser is CB506-67902

There seems to be a small demand for this part on the basis of wear happening to the final cog. This problem is most likely caused by changing the fuser and not pushing it home firmly enough. If there is any freedom of movement between the fuser and the body of the printer then the cogs will wear.

So far HP hasn't made the individual cogs available and so far as we know no-one else has either.

Likely signs of a problem are a printer that is somewhat noisy. Remove the fuser and look at the metalwork where the cogs mesh - if there is plastic dust there look closely at the cogs to see if they seem worn.

HP Information

Whilst the name and part-code are widely known and used this part isn't supplied by HP. HP Partsurfer did not respond to queries for this part number in wildcard or full form. Since Icecat depends on an HP feed it didn't respond either.

Prices noted are for a new item without tax. The list is as encountered. We haven't bothered with currency conversion - half of our readers are outside the UK and are more interested in dollar prices.

Some suppliers explicitly say there are no instructions with the kit. Laserprinterkits.com say ...

THIS KIT DOES NOT HAVE DIRECTIONS. THIS KIT IS RECOMMENDED FOR CUSTOMERS WHO KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE PRINTER THEMSELVES. AGAIN, THIS KIT HAS NO DIRECTIONS, THERE IS NO SUPPORT ON THIS PART.

The aliexpress.com (store 810140) entry is interesting because they say ...

... you need provide the sample, we will evaluate the mould cost and material cost after we receive the samples, if you accept the cost, we start to make the sample, we will start the production after the samples passed.

... so they are explicitly looking for low volume assemblies of this kind to make.

Supply Situation

This kind of device usually has one global manufacturer, but that certainly isn't the case here. HP haven't made the part available and have unleashed a torrent of creativity. It seems that one and possibly more compatible manufacturers are attempting to make a this part despite it's small market profile.

One UK distributor had some of these as refurbs but currently seem to have sold out.

In March and May 2013 we contacted UK distributors to get availability of these parts - new or refurbished. The part was listed by a couple of distributors but they don't hold stock. We would have thought demand for the part would be low but from the research above apparently not.

We are researching demand for these parts and considering importing them. The price will depend on demand and the logistics of obtaining good quality supplies.
