HP RM1-5060 Control Panel for HP P4014 Printers.

top-right-photo

HP Part RM1-5060 is the operator control panel for Hewlett Packard LaserJet P4014 printers only.

The LaserJet P4015 and P4015 use a different part, RM1-5060 the difference being that it has a numeric keypad giving users the ability to type pin numbers for secure printing for instance.

The P4014 control panel has a four line graphical display, ready, data and attention lights. The panel has a cursor pad that only has up, down and OK buttons. there are also buttons for back, clear, help and folder.

Electrically the panel is connected by an eight-way cable carrying serial data in and out. RM1-5082 The cable also carries ground, power and clock from the printer's DC controller. There is probably a local SERDES mechanism interpreting data.

We are in the process of documenting panel use. Obviously the definitive guides are the HP user guide and service manual.

The control panel is unlikely to develop an electronic fault however it is exposed on one corner of the printer where falling objects sometimes cause damage. Spills are another possibility (turn the machine straight off to avoid potential danger). Buttons can also malfunction getting sticky and unresponsive after some years of use.

The assembly electronics are enclosed in white plastic on the front with a black plastic rear screwed in place. In principle it can be dismantled and most mechanical faults could be resolved. However individual parts such as buttons and the LCD are not available as spares. Whilst control panels with sticky keys can often be repaired they often look so worn that users are more grateful if IT changes the whole thing, rather than spends time on a repair.

Operator panel problems are often self-evident, with visible damage. Other problems such as failures of parts of the display are possible. No display and no lights rather implies the machine is turned off or has blown a fuse - or damage to the DC Controller. A printer that still responds on its Web-server but not on the control panel might be a candidate for panel replacement.

The power supply RM1-4578 DC Controller RM1-4582 and linking cable RM1-5082 might all be implicated in a fault that seems control panel related.

HP Information

A query to HP Partsurfer in August 2013 gave

RM1-5060-000CN Control panel assembly - Control buttons and display located on top right front of printer - For the LaserJet P4014 series

... and listed the P4014, P4014DN, P4014N, as well as the P4015X, P4515TN and P4515X printer which we think is wrong. It fits all varieties of the P4014 (?)

Icecat says the RM1-5060-000CN is EAN/UPC 5704327627890 and says its a printer kit. The page had 44 Product Views.

A ASIN of B003D3KH8Q has apparently been assigned.

Control panels are one of the parts least likely to be common amongst printers. Manufacturers have a common theme but then redesign the panel, adding features like numeric keypads, quickdial buttons on printers with fax capability and suchlike.

So far as we know this is the panel for the P4014 printers in varieties as listed above.

Web Research

A google query in August 2013 got About 338,000 results (0.36 seconds). That is about a third higher than for the RM1-5060 perhaps reflecting higher sales and more interest in the cheaper P4014?

Prices noted are for a new item without tax. The list is as encountered. We haven't bothered with currency conversion - half of our readers are outside the UK and are more interested in dollar prices.

Supply Situation

This kind of device has one global manufacturer ... A compatible manufacturer would not attempt to make a component of this complexity and comparatively small market profile. They would also have to hack the SERDES protocol used to link the panel to the DC controller which will probably be based on I2C but may not be simple.

In August 2013 these parts are available new and refurbished. Refurbished will mean no more than pulling the item from a working printer and giving it a superficial clean. In principle the assembly screws together so more could be done but it won't be.

The part is listed by two distributors and non had stock. We think demand for the part will be fairly low, may normally be fulfilled by used parts and that an order for a new part could be met by HP in about 7 days.

We can provide these parts when required. The price is about £55 new and £20 refurb.

These are guidelines, our prices change with distribution lists - see the catalog. Investigation suggests there is little call for the part.
