HP RM1-5082 for HP P4014 P4015 and P4515 Printers.

HP Part RM1-5082 is the operator or control panel cable for P4014 P4015 and P4515 Printers.

This type of cable is likely to differ whenever the DC Controller and operator panel are revised between printer models. In this case there will be little resemblance to the old LJ4200 panel because that was placed in the middle of the cartridge lid. The LaserJet Enterprise M601 cable placement is similar but part number RM1-8341 is different.

Eight wire strands with a CT type connector on either end running from J70 to J170.

Carries power and data between the DC controller and the operator panel. Pin propositions are: Gnd, 3.3V, FPO, FPI, FPCK, /FPCS, GND, 5V

The only likely fault is damage during repair work and the result is likely to be an unresponsive panel.

Cutting one or more strands of the cable will result in an unresponsive control panel. Accidentally grounding the cable by getting it trapped in metalwork is another possibility. Weird or intermittent faults with the operator panel immediately after service work that involved dismantling the printer could be the cable.

Damage to the cable is likely to be repairable. Remove the cable from wherever it got trapped. Solder and self-amalgamating tape can be used to repair any damage to wire or insulation.

The P4014 control panel isRM1-5060and the P4015 and P4515 control panel is RM1-5059

HP Information

A wildcard query to Partsurfer in July 2013 gave no result. The specific query RM1-5082-000CN gave:

RM1-5082-000CN Operation panel cable - Connects panel with the DC controller board

... and the usual list of printers HP LaserJet P4014, HP LaserJet P4014N, HP LaserJet P4014DN, HP LaserJet P4015N, HP LaserJet P4015DN, HP LaserJet P4015TN, HP LaserJet P4015X, HP LaserJet P4515X, HP LaserJet P4515XM, HP LaserJet P4515TN and

Icecat says RM1-5082-000CN is EAN/UPC 5711045508141 and had 6 product views - almost no interest then.

HP's product numbering of RM1-5082-000CN suggests involvement of Canon and that there have been no variants. The part can be known as RM1-5082-000 and just the short form RM1-5082. There is probably similar functionality from other cables.

LaserJet P4014, P4015 and P4515 in all the variants - N, DN, TN, X, XM and so forth.

Web Research

You possibly guessed where we were heading with this. RM1-5082 exists, it will have a specification and QC documents for test and inspection. It is probably made by one of Canon or HP's subcontractors, perhaps in a more general contract for interlink cables and wiring harnesses. Non of that information is made public, only the existence of the part. This part certainly isn't requested much -if ever.

So why in heavens name does Goggle list About 148,000 results (0.18 seconds). It isn't Google's fault, they simply see people listing this item. But the sheer number of list driven vendors pushing a part that scarcely anyone will ever want is quite amazing.

Amazon (ZAR systems) £15+ £12 delivery (despatch 2-3 weeks), Chips £1.92 discounted to £1.84), LambdaTek £4.15, Partshere $3.14 but also with a compatible and a refurb (surprising), printerworks $5.64, Impactcomputers $6.90, sparepartswarehouse $6.14, newfuser $3.23, amazon several times offering the image from the service manual, xma4govt (no price), icecat (no price), idns (no price), everprint $67.98, hpq-parts $7.59, memory4less $157.37 discounted to $133.76, markit £7.95, DECtrader $23 and shopping.com were listed but the item wasn't on the page.

Prices noted are for a new item without tax. The list is as encountered. We haven't bothered with currency conversion - half of our readers are outside the UK and are more interested in dollar prices.

Not one of the vendors offered any information other than that found in HP Partsurfer or Distributor lists.

The exercise of writing up this pointless part proved interesting in a couple of ways. There is always something to be said, even if the subject is trivial. Google listed the same vendors in much the same order as it does for other obscure parts; when there is nothing to choose between listings it acts consistently - presumably on those sites SEO success. The only notable exceptions were :

  • morecomputers - so I checked their site and they don't list this part - odd because we are pretty sure they get the data feeds lambdatek uses.
  • and eBay. We think eBayers stripping old machines are including the cable with a control panel because that is what several of the pictures suggest.

Supply Situation

This kind of device should have one global manufacturer but PartsHere were somehow managing to offer a compatible, however unlikely that might seem. We suspect someone pressed the button meaning "compatible" when they should have pressed "refurb"

In July 2013 these parts were available new and refurbished. Refurbished in this case would be a "pull" from a working machine, visually inspected.

The part is listed by a couple of distributors but they don't hold stock. We think demand for the part will be very low. No UK distributor was listing refurb stock - possibly they didn't think it was worth the effort.

We can provide these parts when required. The price is about £3.20 which largely reflects the logistics of obtaining one. That probably makes us second cheapest depending on what the others charge for shipment. This is one of those parts where shipment will cost several times the price of the part.

These are guidelines, our prices change with distribution lists - see the catalog. We think there is little or no call for this part - and suspect that even if faults do occur people will repair the one they've got. So at the moment we don't intend to hold stock. As any reader will gather this entry is more of an experiment than a serious attempt to sell the part.
