HP RM1-5449 right cover for HP P4014 Printers.

HP Part RM1-5449 is the grey-white plastic right cover for the P4014 printer. It is basically square with a missing section where the formatter cover goes and the air-vents for the fans on that side. It counts as an "assembly" in HP terms because the power-switch toggle and the engine test switch button are mounted in it.

The P4015 and P4515 take RM1-4550 which is mechanically similar (identical) but black in colour.

The cover is held in place by the top cover RM1-5250 and by clips around the rear and bottom edges.

There are no known faults that would require a new cover except some sort of cosmetic damage or breakage. Either seem to be rare.

There has been a rework of the cover re-coding it to RM1-5449-010CN but we don't know the details. The part is now primarily known as RM1-5449 or RM1-5449-010CN. the same shift happened with the black part RM1-4550.

Icecat did not give an EAN/UPC for RM1-5449-010CN. There had been no product views when we checked, an indication of this parts low importance as a spare. This was somewhat less than the P4015 part RM1-4550 6 product views.

The part is intended cosmetically for the P4014 with its pale grey styling.

A Google query on code RM1-5449 found About 108,000 results results; wierdly less than the 1,300,000 for RM1-4550.

Prices noted are for a new item without tax. The list is as encountered. We don't do currency conversion - half of our readers are outside the UK and are more interested in dollar prices.

Non of the above gave any information beyond what is in Partsurfer. The exercise shows it is possible to pay more for the refurb than a new item.

Supply Situation

This kind of item has one global manufacturer. It is not likely to be cloned; it seems unlikely that any compatible manufacturer would attempt to make a component of this complexity and small market profile. It is just a bib plastic moulding but the detailing means it must be quite difficult to make.

In August 2013 these parts are available new and refurbished. The meaning of the word "refurbished" is going to be something on the line of cleaned and not clearly cosmetically innadequate.

The part is listed by 2 UK distributors, they don't hold stock but can probably get it from HP on 3-5 day lead time.

We can provide these parts new for about £27 with about 5 days lead-time. For some reason the new P4014 item is about 25% cheaper than the same thing in black for the P4015. At the time of writing we didn't find any refurbed RM1-5449 although that situation could change very rapidly.

Price and availability are guidelines, our prices change with distribution lists - see the catalog. Stock numbers indicate there is almost no call for the part. Buyers are likely to accept refurbished parts if they are offered at reasonable prices - not all the sites examined above had anything like a reasonable price.
