Print Technology-Color Laser

The Lexmark C510 is a small workgroup color laser printer with print speeds of up to 30 ppm in black and up to 8 ppm in color that features "2400 Image Quality printing" to enhance color in business documents. A small footprint and the availability of a duplex option helps optimize office space.

Models in this family are:

  • C510 - Part 20K1100 Model 5021-000 - version with USB only
  • C510N - Part 20K1200 Model 5021-010 - with network interface
  • C510DN -Part ? Model 5021-010 - with duplex and network interface
  • C510DTN - 20K1300 Model 5021-010 - with duplex, network and an extra 530 sheet tray
  • C510TN - Part ? Model 5021-010 - with the 530 sheet tray and network - but no duplex.

The C500N is a low-cost host-based printer similar to the 5021 engine. Part 22R0010 Model 5023-110.

The spares list is similar but the printers take different cartridges. The X500N (7100-010) and X502n (7100-110) are multifunction machines based on the same engine.

There are standard low cost toner cartridges and high yield cartridges. They are both a bit bigger than those used in the C500N.

The engine also appears with different RAM, processor, etc as the IBM Infoprint 1334. The same engine also appears as the Brother HL-2700CN and MFC9420CN. Toners are nearly if not completely compatible.

Lexmark is replacing the C500 family with the C540n family which is markedly faster at colour print. If colour print is only an intermittent need then the C510 is a reasonable printer.

Control:

2 line LCD display with simple menu navigation. (Its a bit different to that on the C500). Monochrome driver and color lock-mode provide IT administrators the ability to manage color usage. Standard MarkVision network print management software for reliable network connectivity

Duty Cycle:

Up to 35,000 pages per month.

Print speed of 30ppm black and 8ppm in colour. A 500 MHZ internal processor and 64MB memory expandable to 320MB makes these speeds sustainable.

If a toner cartridge is to be replaced with one having a different part number the toner cartridge yield setting has to be changed. this is needed to maintin the accuracy of the counter showing remaining toner. See page 77 of the user manual.

20K0505 Waste Toner Bottle 7-34646-12274-0

The message "Replace WT Pack" is given about 50 pages before the waste bottle is full. the printer will stop working when the bottle is full.

Print quality problems may occur because the printhead lense has become dirty - see the user manual for recommendations on how to clean it.

Photo Developer

The photodeveloper is a large assembly covered in shiny film which mounts in the top of the printer. It should be handled by its latches.

The photodeveloper is used once for black images and four times for each colour image

The message "Photodev Cart Life Warning" is given when the photodeveloper is exhausted. When the new photodeveloper has been installed the photodeveloper count needs to be reset. Prompts on the LCD screen talk the user through this, but briefly.

From the "Ready" prompt

  • Press "Menu" until "Supplies Manual" appears, then press "Select"
  • Press "Menu" until "Replace Supplies" appears, then press "Select"
  • Press "Menu" until the line item for the consumable concerned appears, then press "Select"
  • Press "Menu" so that the prompt say "Relaced", then press "Select"
  • The message "Saved" is given. Press Return until the printer returns to "Ready"
