Lexmark E260d

A4 mono laser printers generally with an automatic duplex unit as standard and a network option. The ability to print double-sided saves money and gives more professional documents. All these printers have an engine resolution of 1200x1200 dpi which Lexmark say gives "2400 quality".

The "n" versions have the embedded network connection.

In Context:

The E260 is the low-cost version of the 4513 engine.

  • E460dw, 4513-6EW and 4513-63W, 34S0600, 40ppm, as above with wireless network.

The 4513 engine appears in multifunction form as the X464 etc.

All the printers have language emulation for PCL5e, PCL6, PS3, PPDS. The E460 also has xHTML and PDF1.6 Direct Image.

The E260 is a "budget printer", hence its lack of an LCD display.

The value proposition changes with the larger printers - a much larger toner cartridge cuts operating costs and there are features like compatibility with Lexmark Forms and Bar Code Solution.

The Lexmark E260d was available in the UK for less than £200 in Summer 2009.

The E260 to E460 series are successors to the E250, E352, E450 series.

The main limitation of the E260 is the relatively low capacity of its cartridges; the E460 deals with that objection. The main limitation of the E260 /360 /460 series is that it doesn't have the speed and expansion options of the "T" series.

Control:

The E260d has lights and buttons for control. This makes simple user interaction easy, at the cost that more complicated tasks mean interpreting flashing light patterns. Higher models in this series like the E360d have an LCD display which makes technical operations simpler.

Maximum Monthly Duty Cycle: Up to 50,000 pages per month.

Recommended Monthly Page Volume: 250 - 2500 pages

Print Speed (Letter, Black): Up to 35 ppm

Print Speed (Letter, Black): Duplex Up to 17 spm

Time to First Page (Black): As fast as 6.5 seconds

What Lexmark say on their PDF's is

"Print Resolution, Black : 1200 Image Quality, 1200x1200 dpi, 2400 Image Quality, 600x600 dpi"

This probably interprets as an engine resolution of 1200x1200 dpi and claiming "2400 image quality" using greyscale. In other words it should reproduce black and white photos well.

These printers use a seperate toner and photoconductor. This approach should give lower printing costs.

Average standard page yield value declared in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752; a 5% page cover is assumed.

As usual with Lexmark there is a standard cartridge at a normal price for such things and a return program cartridge where Lexmark give a lower purchase price in return for the customer's agreement to return the cartridge to them for recycling.

Fuser:

The E260, E360 and E460 all take the same fuser, which isn't too surprising because there is only a marginal speed difference between models.

Maintenance Kit:

There is no explicit maintenance kit for the E260 which is intended for low-volume use.

Spares:

The most likely spares requirement is for the paper feed tires to fix feed problems. The transfer roller and exit guide assembly also wear out. Users also break trays from time to time.
