Lexmark Optra T614

A4 laser printer designed to be a fast and reliable workgroup machine. Midrange in the Optra T610 to T616 series introduced in 1999.

Although the design is quite old the 25 page per minute output speed and 1200 dpi resolution mean it is still a satisfactory machine for many offices.

The design does have limitations, these printers:

  • Can't print their full 1200 dpi resolution at their full rated speed.
  • Don't have enough base RAM to print full page photo's and bitmapped pdf's reliably, although they can be expanded to 384MB which will keep them working.

On the other hand the cartridges come in standard 10,000 and high yield 25,000 page capacitie, very much larger than provided on more contemprary machines. Lexmark "chipped" the cartridges but recycling has become commonplace and doesn't seem to be difficult so these machines can be made to give very low prices per page.

To create the "T" series Lexmark drew heavily on the design of it's "S" series predecessors. This gave them a fast reliable printer to compete with the likes of the HP LaserJet 4000, 4100 and so forth. Subsequently Lexmark produced the T620 and T630 series based on a similar revision of the engine.

LCD with 2 lines of 16 characters and simple keys. A small administrator guide provided with the printer (or available online) lists the menus.

Whats-in-the-box:

The printer isn't on the market anymore so I don't suppose anyone is going to ship them with all their CDs and other bits and bobs. Printers are still available "as is" from brokers and refurbisher. User manuals (and service manuals) are fairly readily available online. Recent Windows and Linux systems have the drivers pre-installed.

Warranty:

Originally One Year LexExpressSM. Waranty on spare parts and second user items is normally 90 days.
