Samsung CLP 500, 510 and 550

The print mechanism uses four toner - developers lined up around one side of a large Optical Photoconductor (OPC) drum. The image is created with a single printhead. A colour image reqires four passes of the OPC, hence the printer is four times as fast on mono pages as it is on colour pages. Above the drum is an Intermediate Transfer Belt (ITB) which builds up the image then the T2 roller strips the image from the ITB onto the page. The page passes through a fuser and can be diverted back through a built-in duplex unit.

Boasts 8 cents per page (US) - a low cost for cheap printer. In a comparison with the HP 1500L Samsung reckon their machine has half the running costs for plain black pages.

Control:

The control panel has an LCD display, 7 buttons and an LED staus map showing the position of faults.

Colour management is ICC ICM V2.0

The CLP-510/510N give up to 25ppm in black and 6ppm in colour the CLP 550/550N give up to 21ppm in black and 5ppm in colour

Duplex printing cuts the black speed to half but has little effect on colour speeds.
